I used to spend my winters in the Carib, as you know Mike. I plan on returning soon. May our paths cross someday!

Lived in St. Thomas about 15 years ago. Had a '78 Sea Ray 30' (a 305 if I remeber correctly) Fly Bridge. That old boat ws built like a tank and weathered many a bad storm.

Got a spare bedroom?
How hard is it to get a work visa?
I've visited several islands on a few different trips and would love to be able to post in this thread legitimately!
:D
What island are you on if you don't mind me asking?

I am from bonaire next to aruba and curacao, roughly 50 miles of the coast of venezuela..a working visa is pretty hard for u.s citizens for some reason...
I myself am in the process of leaving my beautiful island, And as soon as I sell my home will go and live on aruba,Aruba being one and a half times smaller than us,has over a one hunderd thousand habitants,We however have only 15.000.
There is hardly any comerce here,Nature is INCREDIBLE here,The sea as well as land.We boast an ecosystem that cannot be found anywhere in the world..If you like peace and quiet and nature this is the place to be. But after so long I feel kinda stuck and am looking forward to new challenges,Not seeing the same faces everyday you know.Thats one of the reasons why we are leaving,i have some american friends here and i know that it has been a real hassle for them to come and live here..But hey,Its not impossible!!Good luck!

It's amazing. I live in a barren wasteland of flat nothingness where the native trees are 5' tall bushes and the native wildlife consists of wild dogs, snakes, rabbits, and vultures, but there's 220,000 people in this city!

Yeah,Erwinner...We have some animals of our own over here too..lol
But on a serious note, since maybe a year we have been invaded by the lionfish,A serious threat to our fish..T hey say the lionfish escaped from a aquarium somewhere in florida,And made its way to us, and because it is a non native species it does not have natural enemies,They lay about 80.000eggs a week or something, and eat more than a hungry truck driver..
We are a major diving destination,Spearfishing is (sadly)no longer alowed but you can obtain a small speargun free of charge from our local marine park and shoot as many lionfish as one likes....wild dogs and snakes dont sound too bad!

Different strokes for different folks. If it was up to me, would still be there, but would be divorced long ago. Wife didn't like "the island life" and wanted off "the rock". Me, on the other hand, loved the island life. Guess it's what you make it out to be. I embraced it but she wanted back to the mainland and didn't embrace it / only looked at the negetive aspects. Hurricanes, a HUGE part of island life there, scare the crap out of her.

I see,I guess I am lucky..Were situated outside of the hurricane belt.
All we get is rain and sometimes a little wind.
