Inland lake guy here. Mostly Oklahoma, Northern Texas, and Arkansas lakes. My boats have never seen saltwater. I've only done jet skiing on the ocean, but it wasn't my ski. I prefer the lakes where the Gar are the only fish with teeth and jellyfish are non-existant.

Re: any inland guy's?

There's a lot of big water inland and a lot of small water on the coast. I can't see the difference other than tides between the Great Lakes, Chesapeake Bay and edge of the Atlantic, practically speaking. Likewise, the coastal marshes I frequent are within sight of the Atlantic but are more protected than lakes. Great glass for skiing. We call estuaries "rivers" here, too, and there's miles of open salt water to travel up when you head inland on the true rivers, such as the James and the Rappahanock. My coastal canoing is much flatter than the lakes I crossed in Ontario.

This is why the questions here about "going offshore" often aren't what they seem; 2 miles off Virginia Beach is the same as 2 miles off Chicago shoreline.

Aside from the chemical difference of the water, the big difference is that the "inland" guys show the size of their fish by holding their hands apart, while we show them by holding one hand over the floor.

wow, I thought most everyone on here was on the coast of the oceans somewhere, mostly guessing by the size of some of the boats ya'all have on here. lol I ain't never seen a boat close to the size or expense of those around this form on the river i ride on. lol but, the river I ride on ain't that big thought, and full of a lot of down trees and sandbars, the Kaskaskia river for those around southern Illinois area, might sound familiar. The only time I see boats like half those on here is if I go to Carlyle Lake, then I am star struck at some of them boats, I'm used to seeing plane old John boats goin up and down the river lol

I remember reading a few years ago that Michigan has the most boats registered of any state. Not sure if it still holds true. There are a ton of boats on the Great Lakes and its tributary's,my guess would be more boats in fresh water across the USA than the salty ones.As far as the fish comments, the 48-50" muskies I have boarded and released with many teeth can compete with most of the saltys, not all,we do have 7-9' Sturgeons as well, there are off limits though. All of the Great Lakes can turn on you in a flash and be as nasty as any Ocean.

Pittsburgh checking in, 3 rivers here ya know! You can eat lunch at a fancy big city joint, and dinner on the banks of the Mon in the mountains of West Virginia. Drag it up to Lake Erie on occasion. About 3.5 hour trip but worth doing it 3 to 6 times a season.

I'm about 60 miles from the Atlantic and the Gulf but we spend most of our time 15 minutes down the street on the Harris Chain of lakes in central Florida. We have the Bassmaster Southern Open coming here in two weeks!!!

Ohio here! I fish inland and the great lakes Now mostly Erie! I'm 58 and haven't found better! But she's a mean old lady that can go from bluebird day with water like glass or 10-12 ft waves in just a few minutes. Most common is 2-3's on most. Where else can you get walleye like this one and perch over 12' all the time? Got this on first day this year!

Small lakes and rivers around here (although there are a couple big lakes within four or five hours).

I really miss SF Bay...

River rat all the way... I have Georgian Bay at one end of my river and lake Nipissing at the other end and I don't go on either.
I really don't care for anything that can throw 8' waves at me.

Five miles to the launching ramp on the FL Gulf coast. Probably 20 years since I've put in there though. All I do is fresh water lakes and rivers. My "big" boat is a 14' aluminum with a 35hp. My "little" boat is a 14" jon boat with a variety of 3-10hp motors to choose from. All from the days when life was so much simpler (and more affordable).

I'm about 3 miles from the coast but spend 99% of my time on the river. Have been to sea in my 18 footer twice but the weather needs to be perfect. The north coast of ireland can throw up some wicked sea states depending on wind and tide. I head out to sea with my friend on his 33ft sailing boat when possible. You need the right tool for the job...

Don't fish for perch but agree with you on walleye.

I grew up on the Great Lakes of Michigan and own on the water, to me there is no better place to boat. We have some of the best boating/fishing to be had in the US. Anywhere in Michigan is only a few miles to a body of water that you can boat on, and it's all fresh water. Glad I live and enjoy everything Michigan has to offer water wise.

Unfortunately, you have to live in/around Michigan to enjoy it. Lol. ;)
