Re: Any Linux users?

I might have given you a bum steer. It looks like the trial download is only for an UPGRADE from a previous version that you would have.

I check for other options.

It might be easier to just right click on the iso file (it's on your desktop), click on copy.

goto Windows Explorer

Click on My Computer, click on the C drive

At top menu click on File,New Folder

Give the new Folder a Name, call it Knoppix, hit Enter

Right click on the new folder, click paste

Now go back to your burner program and point it to your new Knoppix folder on the C drive.

BTW, as a general rule, I have a folder in the root of my C drive called Download (C:\Download)

All downloads are directed to go there, it makes it easy to find all files I have downloaded. I don't d/l files to my desktop.

Nothing like playing with your rod to while away the time. :D

Try down loading all three SBN, I can't be sure that it is just an upgrade. It's hard for me to concentrate with my new download of Janis Joplin blasting 'me and bobby McGee' in my ear.

If it requires that you have a previous version it will tell you, then we can go for plan B

Originally posted by SBN:
One more thing, when I send it to my burner and I browse for it, no desk top shows up on browse, just computer and the cd drives.
Here's another way: (BTW-you were close)

Go into your burner program
Tell it you want to burn and iso image
Browse to Computer
Click on C drive
Click on Documents and Settings
Click on the plus sign by your login name
Click on Desktop folder

You should then see the iso file. The burner program will then know what iso file you want to burn.

Yea that's pretty neat. My old knoppix cd must have been outa date or something. I did not have to configure anything on this one, just typed in the addy and wallaaaa, I'm here.

Nice to have a back up too.

A little late on this, but think of the .iso file the same way you would a zip file.

It is simply a way of creating a digital copy of the CD (all files/folders/hidden and visible) and putting it in one file.

AK Chappy

well....grabbed an old at amd k6 333, no hdd, cdrom and floppy only....64m dram.....configured bios to boot cdrom, floppy, hdd.

got it to boot, but, more memory needed to open fully. I will now plug in more ram chips to see if this boot cd will page all available memory slots.....very cool.

Re: Any Linux users?

installed more ram....total of mixed simm and dramm = 96 meg (1dran@64m, 2simm@16m each).

knoppix loads fine, is slow on this machine due to being a k6-333, 8x cdrom drive, and so on.

Very cool though.....imo, build a barebones machine, modern processor, 1/2 gig ram, fast cd drive, and so forth, NO HDD though, and surf the net without fear of infection or risk.

Re: Any Linux users?

That's what I was thinking pjc.
How can it infect a cd?

One thing I did not see and I have not look real hard, is a movie player in knoppix.
I might just not have looked hard enough to see one though.
