Any way to tell if lower unit is good if it is uninstalled? I have a Mercury 150 spare motor and have removed the lower unit. I was told it was good but dont want to take mine apart and replace it if it is no good.

BTW mine has no reverse.

Older Mercurys 77 models. Power of tower type motors.

Thanks

Troy

The only real way to tell is to pull carrier and inspect gears and clutch dog and install a new impeller while its off....

Troy, it is only a few minutes to switch gearcases. If your reverse is bad, it sounds like swapping is in order.

The spare gearcase if from an inline motor as well?

Is your Reverse really bad?

Have you disconnected the shift cable and manually shifted it to see if maybe the cable has stretched and needs replacement?

Hate to see you swap LU's and still not have Reverse, then pull either unit apart and find nothing wrong!

Always remember the K.I.S.S. principle, check the easiest things first.
