Hi guys,

I have a 95 Bayliner w/ a Force 120hp OB. (my first boat - with a motor) It runs well at speed, but does not idle very well. I want to rebuild the carbs and clean the carbs thoroughly since they haven't been cleaned or inspected in over 5 years - piece of mind. I have changed the impellor, lower fluids plugs & filter. I also want to check the reed valves while I'm in there since the motor seems to leak a bit out of the carbs when the motor is trimmed up for transport.

I'd also like to de-carb the motor before the winter. Is there anyone in the DFW area that would be willing to help me set the timing and carb linkages after I rebuild the carbs ? I don't have a timing gun or access to a water tank. I have a factory manual for help if needed. I'm not 100% sure that the timing even needs to be touched - the boat runs like a bat out of hell at WOT 45-50mph.

I just don't know any boat mechanics personally and the ones that I've met, seem shady at best. I know this stuff is pretty straight forward, but it helps the little hamster spinning the wheel in my head to see things done by somebody who has done them before...

Any suggestions or recommendations greatly appreciated.

Clean sparkplugs and set idle speed to 750-800rpms, in gear, in water.

check the fuel pump diaphram for holes and cracking since it has been sitting for a long time, very simple and inexpensive part.

I'll definitely check the fuel pump -thanks. Another problem that I have is a lack of tachometer.... Boat just has a fuel guage and a speedometer. How do you guys get around that ?

Alot of people buy what is called a tiny tach. YOu can hook it up to spark plug wires. Just search online for tiny tach. I have one but have not put it on yet.

You may have already done this but if there was still gas in the tank when you got it I would drain it out before cleaning the carbs. The boat I have now had been sitting for 5 years and still had the old gas in it and if you see alot of goop then flush out the tank. The old gas will continue to goop up your carbs. In my case I just ended up buying a 12 gallon plastic tank and by passed the original tank.

Also on a good mechanic shop. This may be a little to far from you but I go to Charlie's Outboard which is in Alvarado on Hwy 67. Good people and good mechanics. They will shoot it straight with you. Many guys in my bass club go there also. Also, I have heard fun n sun in hurst has good mechanics.
