Re: Anybody know Mercedes-Benz?

How about a 2004 SLK230, 40K mi. lease return? We have not looked at it, as it at a MB dealer in Mansfield OH.

It's a great car, mostly because it's the final production run of that 170 chassis. All factory refinements have been done.
Common faults would be the autotrans electrical pin bushing connector is prone to leak every 20/30k miles. This is a minor repair, under a hundred bucks. Less if your mechanically inclined, the part is $15 and takes 20 minutes to replace.

The vario roof has a tendency to make creaking noises, that's minor also. There is a special weatherstrip lubricant that you apply that does wonders to quiet it down.

About the only issue I find bothersome is the interior pieces like the center console is made with black plastic that has a soft feel interior paint colored to the interior. If is scratched the black shows through. If the interior is black it isn't an issue.

The drivetrain has never been an issue with the 170 chassis. The 4 cylinder is a bit noisey since they use the supercharger as the air injection (AI) pump when cold.

If you PM me with the full VIN#, I can run a vehicle master inquirery and provide you with the vehicle's history.

If it's from a MB dealer it should be a certified pre-owned (CPO), double check to make sure it is, as then it'll be fully reconditioned and have a full warrenty out to 100k.
The CPO is extensive enough that it addresses interior issues before it's sold. And any collisions that come close to the frame exempts the vehicle from being a CPO candidate.

SLK230= "S"uper "L"ight (Body) "K"ompressor (supercharged) 2.3 liter.

We missed this one, as someone beat us to it for $23,900 or less.

We are still looking and I appreciate your info.

Re: Anybody know Mercedes-Benz?

Since it seems you like the the 170 chassis vintage of the SLK, keep in mind what I posted about the AMG models.

Let me educate you a bit so you'll know what you may be looking at in the future.
There are a lot of what we call AMG packages. These are vehicles with AMG accessorys installed at the factory or the dealer. This is usually wheels and body flair kits.

Then there are AMG models, these are vehicles that are produced on seperate assembly lines. Some models are assembled in different assembly plants. The difference in these vehicles is more then body parts, suspension and drivetrains. Again, almost every interior component (the painted plastic console pieces I mentioned above are leather covered), all drivetrain control units, several body control units are huge upgrades.
The drivetrains, brakes and suspension components massive, close to overkill and are as reliable and as strong as it gets.

You asked me about this SLK and I said it's a "great" car. If you were asking about a '04 SLK 32 AMG, I would have to say it would be an outstanding, fun, reliable, collectable, awesome automobile.

These AMG models while being as close to race cars as can be street legal are far from being exoticly high maintenence or tempermental.
Simply put, the AMG models are exactly the best of the best and are exactly dead on what one should expect from Mercedes in all of it's model lineup.
About the only items on the AMG's that require substantial more attention and cost is tires. They require premium tires in expensive sizes and brands.

I looked at a few on ebay tonight. They had low miles and were from areas that don't use salt on the roads. Surely some would be very pampered and still close to the money you're talking.
If one had a Mercedes Cares extended warrenty, it's transferable. If not, the Chrysler premium package is a good one and covers most everything except interior pieces and sound systems.

SLK32 AMG, a supercharged 350hp 3.2 liter V6, if I remember correctly had a 0-60 time of just under 4 seconds and was the quickest in it's day.
Momma still would prolly get 25mpg out of it.
