Re: anybody stingray owners

i am a happy 5 year owner of a 1991 656zp bowrider w/5.7 rochester quadrajet alpha 1 gen2 outdrive. It had 230 hours on it when i bought it. it rides well in the chesapeake in any chop by using a little bit of my snow skiing parallel skills.

i've taken it to out on still water up to 44mpg with a 21degree stock aluminum prop w/o a tune up. the air vacume-locked and i dragged back to 35mph. that's ok, because the droplets hurt my face.

i made a clip-on rod holder for the transom to go for strippers. I have a triple person pull behind and 2 sets of skiis and a knee board. all great.

i've been to Lake Anna, Chincotegue, Chesapeake Balt-Tilman isle, Deale, Chesapeake beach...and all between plus NY canandaigua.

The boat is perfect. The trailer is always maintenance. I am going to drill the hubs and add zerk fittings to the inside (enlikened super lube) so i won't have to maintain 4 hubs. the salt from chincoteague absorbes the LED wiring and waters down my hub grease. I know how to beat it though.

So...i love the boat. Just what I need to get through my mid life. Not too much and not too little. 12 hours In/out and trolling on a tank....$85 or i can cruise 4 hours at 20-30mph.

I did add a stingray hydroplane to the outdrive. that was my first buy. then water pump, led trailer lights, brakes, surge actuator. don't buy tie down. get the zodiac brakes. I want to add LED rope for a nice eve effect.

Stingray is awesome. I am ready to update some upholstery now. Any ideas ?

Re: anybody stingray owners

Trying out my new 4 blade 21P prop this weekend myself. Had my 2000 200lx for a few weeks now. Loving it. Was thinking about a hydrofoil as well. Gonna wait and see how this prop does. I tried a Quicksilver Hi 5 Stainless prop last weekend and hole shot was incredible, but no top end and way to high rpms. Can't wait to get to Smith Mountain Lake VA this weekend...

What pitch hi 5? On the Hi 5 you don't pitch down like you do with other ss props. On my Stingray I went from a 23 pitch aluminum to a 23 pitch hi 5. I have hole shot and decent top end.

It was 19P. It was one my mechanic had been sitting on for a while and he wanted me to try it. He was going to give me an awesome deal if it worked. Unfortunately it didn't. I will eventually go stainless though, and yes probably at a 23P.

Re: anybody stingray owners

I have a 1999 190RX Stingray with a 3.0 135 HP Mercruiser. Bought the boat 2 summers ago for $6000.00 with trailor. It was in showroom condition. I feel i got a pretty good deal on it. As with most machines, dont buy the boat, buy the owner. It was maticulously maintained !

I do want to change the prop though, it has trouble getting an adult out of the water on one ski. Wake board and two skis no problem, even with 3 or 4 adults in the boat. Anyone have any suggestions as to what prop would help?

1996 556zpx here. this will be our 3rd season with her and she is great. bought it with approx. 280hrs and now she is pushing 550hrs. i just replaced the bellows over the winter and had to have the upper outdrive resealed. also replaced the stingray hydrofoil with the nauticus trim tabs which are really a nice addition. just needs a good cleaning and she will be ready for another grat season! happy boating all!

Re: anybody stingray owners

Used my 21P 4 Blade aluminum prop this weekend. Very satisfied with it. Great hole shot and cruising, as well as acceptable top end. I think this is an over all good choice for the 4.3 Merc anyway. Not sure about the 3.0, but I would assume it would get you out of the water good as well.

Gotta agree with the 21 4 blade. Switched to that this weekend, and hole shot is excellent. Great choice for the 4.3
