Rocky, "you da man!."

I see so many people doing stupid stuff on PWCs, so I'm just tickled to hear about a PWC guy who has enough of a love of nature, to allow his to be used as a nest!

Good job!

Re: anyone boating in the heat?

Went on Tampa Bay today, 91 degrees, heat index up to 110.

There was a light breeze, the Bimini top up and the cooler full of water. Caught a couple of Spanish mackerel.

Interesting though, the water temperature was up to 80 degrees and 99 degrees up in front of the power plant.

I would be but I am rebuilding my floating dock at this time in triple digit heat index, so yes I would be boating in this heat.

Re: anyone boating in the heat?

It was super humid today, in the mid 90s and the water temp was in the low 90s. We spent a lot of the time in the water!

Re: anyone boating in the heat?

well you guys are pretty tough. boating in the high heat... to me the heats not to bad, but the darn dew point/humidity is killer.

i did finally get out. had to wait till sun. morning. good thing too i guess. the rain i was expecting came through here with 65mph winds and blew trees down and interrupted power to folks here in my city. the lake likely got the same treatment. it's 22 miles away...

so i got up sun. at 5am thinking i'll be out by 6. but no, still raining. so i'll go out at 6, no, still raining... waited till 8 and finally gave up. i could see the rain was gonna end so went on out. man, that was a mistake. now my boats trashed from wet pavement. standing water. totally covered my boat in dirt... grrrr. oh well, won't be the first time, wont' be the last. and it does make it easy to see where ya've washed when ya get that far...

so had a good day at the lake. though i was only out for 5 hrs (did get my fix though). i came back in when it was getting busy on the lake + the temps were on their way up again. temps were mid 70's to 80's while i was out. very nice. i did get some nice swim time in after it got warm out... nothing like swimming alone on the lake..
yep, i had my pfd on the whole time. :D

Re: anyone boating in the heat?

94* real temp right now. 79* dew point, 64% humidity.... heat index... 110*

anyone been out today or contemplating going out?

i'm contemplating... just went and cleaned up the ice cooler. 10mins. max outside.... i turn into a wet dish towel... sweat running down my face. that's pretty miserable out.... ya'd have to live in the water today if at the lake i'd think...

hey ZIGGY; were not going out. might drag the weekender over to flaming gorge.:) we really were more winter boaters any way. jill is spoiled :confused:by having a slip and dos'nt want to have much to do with trailering now.

on another note, the 310 we bought down at mead belonged to a guy from your neck of the wood there in Lincoln. small world. he builds, owens or leases or has something to do with airports some way.

Heck yeah I boat when its hot! Having no windshield helps, but we mainly stay in the water to cool off. :)

Of course we are. Its only comfortable to ski from Mid-February to Early November here. When the water gets this hot then the ski doesn't want to grip in hard turns so its time to drop the fin a bit.

Re: anyone boating in the heat?

Well, was just reading this Thread about heat that is dated back in July 2010, but here it's July 22, 2011 and it's awfully warm this PM (95) where we live in Jax, Florida. Thought about taking the boat out tomorrow around 9AM, but am really concerned about the heat here. We've been out on the river when it was about 85 degrees and that darn near exhausted us! We are in our early 60's (62/63), have a bimini top on the boat, but don't want the heat to hurt us out on the water. I know there are folks our age that won't do much of anything in this kind of heat, let alone launch/retrieve a boat and cruise around. Now, if we had a fully-contained cabin cruiser with A/C, that could be very different, but our boat is a cuddy cabin.
Really would like to get the boat out on the water again, been a some weeks since the last time, but this heat is awful!

Re: anyone boating in the heat?

ouch, 106*...

only at 93 here right now, heat index, 101, again. it's been like this for days.

got out boating last saturday. started prepping in the driveway when my neighbors house finally cast a shadow (shade) on my boat. got out maybe 8 pmish. was real hot. can't remember, but i'm sure heat index in the hundred. we stayed out on the lake till midnight. it was pleasant but if ya touched the glass boat, it was slippery due to high humidity. we slept on the boat and it was nice but damp. got up the next day a little past sunrise. it started to get hot right away. by 7:30 we packed it in.

now i'm bummed, the gf now will be working the next few (maybe more) weekends. we like to go boating on the weekends. guess not the next few. hope her slave driving job gives her some time off so we can get out. might be cooler by then i suppose..

boating in the heat is when you boat.

i live in dry heat......is gets over 100 degs here in a good summer.....and thats when boating is a must !
its 10 deg cooler on the water.....and a quick dip makes everything great.

i just cant see not going out in the hot.

Absolutely!

Living on long island sound, if it's 95 on land, just a short trip out and it's only 85-90 on the water :) heading out at noon today.

Ok, this post was last year. Today it was....

185498_10100237725752571_9011533_49945219_5562127_n.jpg

and that was after a 10 min trip on the highway, not sitting still.

The air on the sound was a solid 95.. we did head straight out into the sound for 5 or so miles and it dropped to 90, water temps in the 70 area.

On the way back in i was thinking "why the HECK am I coming back in"

And now I sit here, three huge ac's turned on, inside, trying to beat the heat.

Re: anyone boating in the heat?

I am used to the heat but the better half is not too keen about being on the boat in 100 degree weather. Already 99 here in SC on my 2 thermometers. So we will wait until evening this time. I don't really care long as I get to go boatin :D
