I have an 81 Evinrude 50 that runs like a top, stil has the original power head and has 135 compression cold.

The 80 OMCs are some of the best ebgiens ever built in my opinion, the are pretty much bullitproof and are simple as a stone.

You should try to find Gary's thread where he bought and cleaned up that boat. Would you believe it had been left in the water for an extremely long time and was filthy? He put a TON of work into getting it that nice. One of my favorites on here.

OK! I'll chime in with the late '70s Chrysler contingent. A 50, 140, and 105.

Re: anyone have a good running outboard?

I have two perfectly running 1991 150's. Though it's not always been that way. They have never been in fresh water (brackish) but I hose flush them religiously!

This forum, an OEM manual and a dash of common sense has allowed me to rebuild one completely and diagnose and repair the occasional hiccup on both motors.

So far I've replaced:
2- trim pumps
1- trim sender
4- trim relays
2-ignition switches
12 - carburator kits
fuel lines
fuel sender
1-OMS fuel pump
1-power pack
rebuilt hydraulic steering cylinder

and 1 motor total rebuild all six holes, bearings etc..

In addition to the countless routine service parts - filters, impellers plugs, plug wires etc.... I've had the boat for 7 years.

Boating is not an inexpensive hobby, knowing how to service and repair it yourself will save you thousands of dollars.

My 85hp Johnson was a real good motor (see above) - certainly a "keeper". Nonetheless, earlier in the year I let her go in favor of a newer 90hp looper Evinrude. The Evinrude is a real good runner too.

This is my 1983 Johnson 15 horse I fixed up with the help of a friend and this site.

It was pretty UGLY when I got it, and my take on creativity (will be home on my flat bottom jon boat)

For a saltwater motor w/ over 2K hours on it. This one still runs pretty good. ;)

Love the prop! Hate the trailer though!

If you just came back from an afternoon of boating, the tide is out, and you have 14" of water on the ramp to load a #6K boat, chances are you would appreciate a roller trailer a bit more. ;)

trim the mtr and punch it! I know this is not allowed but i see it all the time.I just prefer bunks over wheels i know it will never roll off when backing down ramp with only the crank holding it.steep ramps here.

1998 Mercury 25hp. Was neglected from previous owner, never been washed or waxed, or serviced! Got it, serviced it, rebuilt the carb, washed-waxed-buffed. Motor has less than 20 hours total, 130psi even on cylinders (115 and 110 when I got her). Starts first time every time and runs like a scalded dog. Will run all day and all night long.
