If you didn't have gas and fire on a boat, how would you water ski?

Pics of grills installed please guys! When out on a trip, do you normally cruise with the grill installed or do you stow it (kinda hard to stow it when space is small in an 18footer), and install it only when in use?

I guess I'm worried how the boat would look when I am running about with the grill somewhere in front.

Or if the heavy porpoising I have (until my smart tabs arrive) will damage the grills or heavy splashing of salt water will damage it?

thanks for the pic. Can you post another pic of the boat as a whole with the grill on it. I want to see how a boat looks with the grill hanging outside of it.

Also, for the rod holder, how deep does it go?
And is the bottom of it sealed so no water goes in the hull?
does it make sense for me who doesnt fish to use a rod holder type mount? Although i do like the flush design...

I dont have pic of the entire boat with the grill, I dont think in any boat the rod holder are sealed maybe in some the water will go to the deck, in mine water goes in the hull. I will take more pic and show you how it look.

How deep does the rod holder go ?

I am thinking maybe I can just leave enough for the grill holder and cut off the rest and seal them in (weld and silicone) so no water gets inside the hull.

Ok guys thank you for all your help. Finally settled on getting the 17" magma 2 grill and a rod holder with the rod mount to go with it.

Only one more thing is bothering me.

On the product description it states this :

* Largest Selection of Custom Mount Options & Accessories.
* Uses Standard Disposable Propane Canisters, or Adapts to On-Board LPG or CNG Systems.

I live in the philippines and I have seen some disposable canisters on our local hardware store here. I think it is used mainly for the portable stoves for camping. Bottom line is, I am not sure if it is compatible with what is readily available here in my country. And of course importing the stuff is out of the question due to costs and shipping restrictions.

Can someone please post close ups of the portable canisters and their connections. I want to find out if it is compatible. At the same time, I will buy one and post pics of the connecting part so may be you guys can see for yourselves too.

Also post the standard mounting options that come with the magma 2. That way I can order with it the needed connecting accessories.

I will take some pic, the grill does not come with any mount system at least the one i got which is the same one u getting, believe me you want to get something that the grill is out of the boat when u starting cooking burger or anything and that grease starting dripping in ur floor then you wont take the grill again, my grill with the rod holder put all the grease out of the boat.

Thanks lakester and azlakes.

Finally bought one and the only one type of disposable stuff they sell here for camping etc... I am not sure if it is compatible with the marine grill kettle out of the box or if I need to buy any additional adapters for attachments....

here is the pic of it ...

It is labeled

Cassette GAS
L.P.G. Can
Inflammable gas/odored L.P.G. Liquefied Butane Caution.

and here is the tip of it...

So does this look the same as what you guys are using or is it something totally different ?

That's butane....the grill uses propane.
The use canisters. And the top looks like this.

Hdradaza, most of the better stainless rod holders will have rubber plugs/caps to keep water out while not in use - one company had white
ones too.
I'm guessing that if the water is rough enough to go into the rod holder
a lot more will probably be washing over the side:eek: You most likely will headed for safer waters!

Re: Anyone have a grill on a 15 - 20 foot boats ?

Starcraft 1710- i've got no rails, nor is there really anywhere to mount rod holders. So.. I bought a stainless grill at Lowes ( $59. end of season) built a wooden tray for it to sit on on top of the engine cover. The legs fold and are U shaped, so I put blocks on the tray for them to sit over - drilled them so pins can be slipped through the legs and blocks and then put a couple web strips with snaps on them which go to a couple exiting snaps on the engine cover. Folded up the BBQ is like a suitcase and fits under the dash on pasenger side, the wooden tray goes in the ski locker. Cost - less than $75. It's in the center of the boat so nice and stable, don't have to lean out over the side of the boat, if I drop something it's not in the water, the tray catches any spills, which isn't a problem cause the bbq has a removeable catch tray under it as well. When I bbq I have lots of room and there's usually a couple people sitting up in the bow. Fire - I'm not worried about - if the BBQ ignites boat gas - I've got other problems, plus the fire ext is right beside the motor and in an emergency I can always throw the whole works over the side. By the time we finish our burgs, the bbq has cooled down and I can put it away, or I could (never have) run with it on the engine cover. On a windy day, i probably wouldn't be bbq ing or would be looking for a sheltered spot - if it was windy enough to be problem it probably wouldn't be too nice sitting out there anyway. Just my opinion, but i'd save the extra money for the kettle one, etc - they are great but really are designed for yauhts and sailboats where they will get lots of extended use, the last time we went to use my buddies on an overniter we dropped part of it - which was over the side and had no bbq for our 3 day trip. Save the money and buy a VHF radio or GPS or some other toy as well.

ok ..... thanks guys.... so obviously the mounting points for the canisters is different. My question is... is there an adapter that I can purchase so I can use butane with the grill.

Second question... since they only sell butane here; can I even use butane instead of propane for the grill ? Any hazards that I might run into or shoudl be aware of if ever i do this ?

I think you guys are eating the small illegal fish before you can get back to the dock and get caught with em. Every time i catch a flounder thats an inch or so too small i wish i had one of those grills onboard LOL!!

hdradaza:

The only effective difference between propane and butane is the boiling point and a very few available calories. Here in the USA the propane available is sometimes a mix. If you can get an adapter to use your butane cartridges then at your outside temperature you will never notice the difference. You will not have to rejet the burner or even adjust the air flow; just pop in the fuel light it and enjoy!:D
