anyone have any expierence with these

So it is still a bit cool and I am obsessing over things I can do to the boat. I want underwater lights for some evening cruises this summer.
I do not fish so I am not too concerned ith attracting bait or anything. Just cool lights under the swim platform. I was searching around and since I do not at all want to drill any more holes in the transom these seem to fit the bill. Just wondering if anyone had used these type of lights before?

I agree 300 buck is a bit steep!!!!
I just thought it was a really cool idea. I would like to see more pics on their website. Night time pics and some with sterndrives because I wonder if that would cast a strange shadow since it is directly behind the drive.

If the price was cheaper I would give it a shot.

Only on the stern is cool with me TD cause that is where I need the lights.

Ok I have to admit that is a great idea. I would pay up to $30 for one. Looks like the outdrive blocks a good bit of the light. I am trying to recall how high up the overboard drains are above the water on my rig. I think at least one is below the water level for another install spot/idea.

It's an interesting product. Might be worth letting them know of the interest on this forum and see if they will give you some pictures for circulation. Not sure I'd pay $300 for it, but might consider it on a sale if it really works.

I just emailed them to see if they have some more pics that we can see. I think they are a new company starting out. We will see what they say. but 300 is too much

I can't really understand a use for it in that position. I just don't trust anything but a plug as far as replacing that function in the drain. I would rather just buy some LED lights to mount underneathe a swim platform to shine down into the water. The hole for the wiring would be above the waterline, and would be easily waterproofed with silicon or epoxy. Also, it would be much cheaper than $300. Homwever, I suppose if you don't have a swim platform and want to see your outdrive in the water, I guess it's useful?

Consider the water you boat in. They really only work well in clear water. Here in the St. Johns the water is so murky that lights are almost useless.

also.... notice how blurry the pic is? (look at the driver and the seat back) also notice how light the sky is but all the lights on lans in the background are on and VERY bright..... I think that pic was taken with a long exposure to maximize how bright the lights would look..... I have been looking into some "party lights" myself but it is hard to get good info on them.... I find it very hard to believe that the lights that cost 3-7 hundred each really need to cost that much..... Kinda like there is a "selling to rich folks" mentality going on... after all when you spend a few million on a boat whats a few thousand for lights all around

Another option I have looked into is lighted rubrails but I haven't found much yet

Yup, those pics were on extended exposure with some photoshop touches. In anything but near-perfect water will likely result in a dull glow.

It looks like about a 3' gar 10' straight behind close to the surface in the green light glow, I think it would be cool being able to see what your catching when night fishing.

Chris makes a great product for a great price. The lights can usually be attached to the transom with 3M 4200 with no thru hull holes underwater. There are alot of pics on his site.

I think if I was seriously into night swimming (and it would have to be often to justify the costs) I would DIY with something like http://www.oznium.com/marine-led-light and have a temporary mount to something, even a strip of marine ply as a mount with an A-frame of rope to a central tie off rope. Just run the wire up the rope and tap into your battery. With 4 of these we're talking under $125.

I know it is a frivilous plan but they just look so cool

I corresponded back and forth with them a couple times this afternoon. finally ended up passing on them just too much money for the benifits.

Those coastal lights looked pretty good. The admiraless is now just looking at me like I am crazy. Really I just need to go boating and stop thinking of more ways to spend money on the boat

Okay here is the truth about LED lights.... a single high output Led on the board is 12-40 bucks... depending on Quality blah blah blah..... the trick is the backing, ie brass, copper, SS316 SS316HH etc.... and the big key the Epoxy used to pot the two with the wires coming out the back..... i have a box of old LED's tell me what you want and i will pod stuff for you all night.... just pay me what i put into for materials..... i don't do lighting because it's great money .... well it is.... i do it because when somone tells me it can't be done i get it done.... as well keep in mind there are 100's of ways to light up your boat on the underside hull, deck, etc.....
