Kitchen has been invaded by ants !!! None of the regular stuff seems to be working Anyone know of any good ant remedies ????

Call up that farmer who dropped off the goats after the last "Kenny's out of town" party, I seem to remember him saying something about renting out ant eaters too.

I've used borax powder to kill those little buggers. It's available in a bottle that you can puff the powder out of. I finally figured out that laundry borax works just as well, and is a whole lot cheaper, a little bottle for $4 or a whole box for $4. What I found to work the best is to track down their anthill and sprinkle it with a healthy dose of borax, hope it's not under the house....

A pest control company will place a handful of ant bait traps in your kitchen...to make you feel good.

Then they will do a close examination of the exterior of your house to find the ant trail going into your house. This is usually a corner of a window or door. Now they will caulk that opening, and spray the path with some very nasty stuff that isn't available to us mortals. End result: no more ants.

Actually, the ant baits that they have access to can end this, since they contain poison that will be carried back to the queen. But the quick solution is to find the ant's Ho Chi Minh trail....

I have had several ant invasions over the years. The baits that they take back to kill the queen have always worked for me.

Borax around the the outside of the house, It's a whitish powder. Plus borax is good for all creepy crawlies.
Then I've always bought Terro Liquid Ant killer, A small puddle of it on a piece of cardboard in in there path or next to where you can see them coming out.

It's doesn't kill them dead right away. It's a slow killer. They take it back to the nest and kills them all as they feed on it.

Side note. If you have dogs or cats, or any animals you let loose inside, don't put the terro where they can reach it.
The borax is safe for all animals and humans. In fact I use Borax twice a year. I sprinkle it on my carpets and furniture, let sit and vacuum up. I do this in prevention of fleas.

For the small sugar ants, I'll throw down some Seven powder along whereever they are coming in outside. The stuff that they take back to the queen that I've bought is too big for them to move and so this kills on contact. It isn't a long term solution but it works well for us. Pretty sure it's not safe for pets and so while I'd like to put it inside, I can't.

I've found the combination of these two, mixed together and sprinkled around where their at and their nest, will take care of 99% of all ants.
It takes about 24 hours but once you bait.......They just pack their little bag's and you don't see anymore of them.
NiBan-FG & Maxforce is their names......You can find it online at the pesticide sites.

The other thing I use for cockroaches and water beetles along with all the other larger crawling types is DEMON MAX.
You mix it in a sprayer and spray all around the house..........
The only way you see the bugs is on their backs and dead........
Guaranteed to kill anything with MORE than 4 legs!
It's water proof after it dries, and treatment lasts about 90 days here where I'm at.....

I had ants crawling in through the weepholes in my bricks about 3 weeks ago, and getting into my cat's food. I sprayed wasp spray into a crack in the caulk where they were entering the interior of the house (caulk between tile and baseboard near cat food). That killed the ones that were inside. Then I used a perimeter killer, just Raid or whatever from Walmart, and sprayed the entire outside of the house from the ground up to the third brick (weephole is in the first brick). Then ant baits inside, and haven't seen a bug in here since.

That's great if you like seeing/shaking baking soda all over the place.

How's the cat doing after you did this?
You do know that you could kill your pet with that stuff using it on the inside of the house?

I sprayed it INTO the hole. Then wiped up whatever might have gotten on the floor and wall.

Cat is fine. Just walks backwards now...

borax does work. Mix with sugar and leave a small pile laying around. It takes about a week but but your not killing yourself in the process.

The first solution is to get rid of whatever they are after; food, anything sweet, etc. No food, no ants.

The "traps" are a Band Aid. They work but they (ants) are persistant buggers. They'll sacrifice themselves to get to a food source. An individual ant is stupid but the colony, unlike humans, is smart.

An old Cajun gave me a recipe for fire ant hills: One part Cayenne Pepper to one part Kerosene. No more ant hills!
