I purchased a TP 14X23 for my boat, SeaRay 185 Sprot, 4.3L Carb 190 HP, 1.81 Alpha, dry weight per SR is 2650, plus 26 gal gas and stuff. It came stock with 14X23 so I tried the same in TP, gained speed in the cruise range, 3 to 4 mph, killed wot rpm and mph, called TP told them what had happened they swapped for a 21 P I paid $10.00 fee, covered their freight, I returned old one, they sent in new one. The swap was depending on the 23 P still being in new condition which it was. So if it still does not work out they may swap with you. I did not gain any wot speed by changing to the TP but with the swap I am at least back where I was. I do have Smart Tabs, Stainless Steel version, and did not make any setting changes, I had played with them on the stock prop to get the best performance, so I felt no need to change the settings. You may try calling them and see what will happen.

I told you before, the 19pitch will raise your rpm which will should bring your top speed up, it will also improve your holeshot over the 21 pitch. Given your drive ratio, the 19 pitch hustler makes sense for your boat.

I have more power and a 1.81 drive ratio with a 21 pitch hustler on my Bayliner.

As others have said, Hustler's cupping acts like having more pitch. Use Hustler's Exchange program to get a 19" pitch. $20 plus shipping cost to TP, as long as you haven't dinged or marked it up.

So I finally got my boat out today and has a chance to test that 21 pitch Turning Point aluminum propeller I bought. My hope was to improve the top end a few miles per hour to 50. I was running a standard aluminum 19 pitch and getting 4800 rpms and 47-48 mph top end. Well I am very disappointed. My best top speed on gps was 46.6 and the rpms maxed at 4400. The hole shot is a bit slower but still pretty good. The prop sounds louder due to the venting I guess. This prop ventilates ( or is it cavitating?) and slips a lot on turns and on takeoff. Overall I hate everything about it. Had I gotten the extra top end speed I still would not be happy due to the other charactaristics. So it looks like the stock 19 was a better fit. I would guess my best bet for maximum speed would be a 19 stainless. As for Turning Point props....don't waste your money. Mine is now my emergency spare.

I wouldn't say what you said, you chose the wrong pitch so it must be Turning Points fault???
It didn't necessarily work for you but it did work wonders for me!

Hey thanks to Imported John S my 21 pitch Turning Point prop is on it's way back to them for the 20 dollar swap. I was not aware of that option until John posted it. Pretty simple too, fill out a form on their web site and send it back in " like new" condition. So I hope to be getting back a 19 pitch in the swap and will test that out and report back. Thanks John!

Re: Anyone tried a Turning Point Hustler prop. Latest Update

Thanks to suggestions from this forum, I was able to swap my TP Hustler 21 pitch prop for a 19 pitch for 20 dollars. I got the prop last week and tried it out on Friday. Much better. This time out I had 4 adults, a full tank of gas. Hole shot is pretty close to what I was getting from my original Mercruiser prop. The bite is much better in turns, trim and slow speeds and on plane. I can plane slower, pitch higher and generally seems to cruise better. WOT was hard to compare this week with the extra 2 adults, but RPM's were 4500 trimmed high and speed about equal to the 46-47 I wa getting with the other prop. Overall I like it and will keep it on under different situations and let you guys know what it does. Anxious to try it with a light load on glassy water. I still think 50 mph is not going to happen!

It truly must be the hulls. With my TP 21 and plus my 2900lb dry weight, just me, maybe 8 gallons in the tank, and full gear I can break 50mph on the gps regularly. With the full family I am at 46mph all at 4850rpms. I got my 200 hour service last fall at the 100 hour mark (because the carrier bushing under the impeller was leaking and that was included in the 200 hour service package price) That includes plugs, cap, wires, everything for the tune up. To my suprise I picked up a tiny amount of performance on the top over last year. My biggest beef with the TP now is that it chips really easily even on a bit of sand. I dinged a rock this year with it so I may replace it with a 20 for a little more hole shot. I still like the idea of having a buffer with the aluminum if I really hit something hard.

Glad it worked out for you. I had used their exchange program twice, and both went smoothly as well.

Look forward to your numbers with just you aboard.
