I have been reading here a few years but finally joined to get help with this nagging problem. The boat I recently purchased is a 1984 aq125a with 270 outdrive which has been hacked in every electrical area imaginable and I have removed about 75lbs of black tape concealing the savage mechanics tricks, I find there is voltage coming from the alternator towards the switch side of the ignition coil when the motor is running so when the key is turned off the motor stays running - the wire feeding the coil is shared with a wire to the starter solenoid. My question is the value of the resistor or is this really a blocking diode to prevent the cranking motor from being activated once the motor is already running? I have not found this part in the bilge and am thinking I can locate the discrete part and wrap with noalox and heat shrink tubing to provide a suitable circuit.
I have almost solved all the other problems thanx to patiently reading here, soon I will dip the drive into a water tank before the maiden voyage after bringing this wiring mess back to factory specs.
Thanking you in advance
