About like today's cars, much better in lots of ways, but maintenance and repairs can be very expensive, and not easily done by old shade tree mechanics. My 1999 Yamaha 90C premix suits me fine and I can do all preventive maintenance myself and keep her running like a top. If I have to get a new motor, will have to buy a book and learn how to maintain it. Good Luck!

Yeah. What Robert said. Worlds better in terms of technical sophistication. Worlds worse in terms of owner maintenance friendliness.

Incedibly better in all respects - easier to start, much quieter, use half the fuel and do people have issues???
My only issue is this - I sell boats as a living and can sell a complete 18ft Larson inboard with a 190hp 4.3 Merc, a trailer for $23,995 brand new. A New Yamaha F225 sells here in Canada for $23,795, no boat, no trailer, no prop, no controls or anything else - I would like someone at Yamaha, Mercury, BRP explain that to me as they are all pretty much priced the same. Outrageous!

You've got a real point there, but folks just keep buying them!
