I know it seems like a crazy idea, but seeing all these new cars out there made me think maybe this is the start to machines taking control of our lives.
Like when driving a car, you wanna tell the car what to do, you dont want the car forcing you to do certain things. such as putting your seat belt on, or making you take the key out of the ignition.
I know these are minor annoyances, but the point is, I dont want the car teling me what to do. I tell it what to do. But now I can see how that POSSIBLY could lead to a robot take over. I just want to be the one in charge of my car, not the other way around.

A bit off topic but kind of related......

My HP printer was running out of ink and I had another used cartridge available. I thought I would give the other cartridge a try because I was printing a UPS label. Well....... when I put the used cartridge into my HO printer..... I got a message on the display "Used Cartridge Installed" How in the heck did the printer know that?? I thought it was worth a try but I was busted by my printer!

Yes, the printer cartridge actually 'counts' the amount of ink it has used and reports it to the printer. Once you put the old ink cartridge in, the cartridge told on you.

seems like a good idea to buy a old car with wires and switches and no computer on board.
imho, technology is getting a little too much for me.

Search HP cartridge reset on google. Involves putting a piece of tape on 2 of the contact pins and then remove it which will reset the cartridge memory. If you refill cartridges, than refill the cartridge before it goes completely empty and it should reset also... My Officejet 4500 notified me the ink is running low a couple times then just goes quiet about it..

Just to freak you out even more bowman. Here's a terrifyingly amusing video of the boys at DARPA hacking a car in real time. They can remotely control the fuel level, throttle, brakes, blinkers, everything :( There are also "black boxes" popping up in large cities that car thieves use to cycle through RF frequencies until the find the right one to mimic the signal of the key fob, which then unlocks all the doors, turns on all the lights, even start the engine and all without ever even touching the car (gulp). No more coat hangers, or hot wiring needed. Oh and there was that yacht who had it's GPS hacked recently here in the Gulf. Fun, fun, fun....

Here's another one of a new robot picking strawberries in Japan. It's neato, but it promises to reduce the workforce by 2/3 .

Japan robot can pick strawberry fields forever for farmer

Artificial Intelligence programs, similar to the one used on Jeopardy, are now out performing physicians in diagnoses and in reading radiological scans such as MRIs and Xrays. Dr. Roboto will see you now......

But to answer the OP,
it's funny - on my morning commute today, I heard a story that said it won't be long before cars will drive themselves - Yikes! FIGHT BACK NOW!

I find it amazing that autos know when your tire pressure is low. Autos tell you when it is time to change the oil. The new models have a warning signal when you are getting too close to an object. There are autos that will drive themselves. There are Jet fighters that will fly themselves. Then there are the Drones. Robotics and other machines are taking over. Makes you wonder where people of the future will work? I imagine the future will be like Star trek where Robots will make food and drink out of nothing. People won't need money to survive and thrive. There has to be a change over from the monetary system at some point as robots and machines take over the jobs

I look forward to machines taking over....... I can't wait for the day one of my machines takes over. I can dream about the day the kitchen toaster takes over paying my bills. :D

The good news, if you want to call it that is it will be a few more generations before Machines completely take over. Funny how Star Trek only had a one Robot regular--Data. I think they knew it would scare people to know that Humans will be the Minority by then. I mean really, we already have Robots exploring Mars. You will have to have much more advanced Robots to explored the Trillions of miles in the Universe. People would age and die many times over before we got out of our own Solar system

I'm not sure why those robots decided to go to Mars anyway, from the pictures they have been sending back, it does not look like a vacation spot :D
