With most of the puddles arround here in the >300 ac range I like to travel to find places to explore . Bigger is better. Going fast in circles may be ok for NASCAR , but gets tiring after a while.

Grand Lake is about 64 miles long with 1300 miles of shoreline with about 47,000 surface acres of water, it leaves some room to roam. :)

The St. Lawrence River & over 1000 islands never gets boring. It changes every day.

Re: Are you in a boating rut?

I guess I'm the second person to say he has no trailer. I boat on Lake of the Ozarks, 54,000 acres of water and 1,150 miles of shoreline, 92 miles of main channel and close to 50 miles of major arms. So I don't need to go anywhere else.

Wanna go fishing, close to 200 tournaments a year (obviously many are club tourneys), water sports - you name it, want to watch off shore power boat races - national finals held here, want to party hearty - go to party cove or to many more family friendly cove outs, fire work shows - yep, boat-in movies - yep, etc. Why go anywhere else?

I am such a homer.

Re: Are you in a boating rut?

If there were more lakes near me that I could boat on, it would be fun to check them out. But the two large lakes within 30-40 minutes are crowded, have crappy expensive launches and long launch lines. And the people aren't so nice either.

That's why I drag my boat 3 hours out to Long Island (NY) to my folks place and boat the Peconic bay area. Nice people, no launch lines, no jet skis, and after 5 years of boating there, I have only explored a mere fraction of the places I'd like to go.

Re: Are you in a boating rut?

Well, I got a trailer for the boat and a Seadoo as well. Stored at the lake in a really nice 10X30 metal enclosed building. Around here, there are lots of small farm ponds that make for great fishing, but pretty limited to boating size lakes within an hour or two drive. So, I've been on the same lake since I bought the boat back in '99. We have a close friend, "Uncle" to my daughter, that has a trailer right on the water. Has super nice deck, a beach area, and we get to use his bathroom and we grill a lot in the evenings. Super sweet set up, just can't think why I'd want to explore new lakes without having this kind of setup. Now, we do have an acre of land on Lake Texoma that we were planning on building something on and store the boat there, but with the wife getting laid off, it kind of put things in a holding pattern. But, the land is paid off and only about 50 bucks a year for taxes, so just letting it stay idle isn't hurting a thing. Someday, someday......some.....day..........

I would take the family camping on the one acre of land and bring the boat with you.

I actually don't care anything about the ocean. I've been out on both Atlantic/Pacific/Caribbean, they are all nice and have great scenery. However, I don't have to worry about jellyfish, or high/low tide, salt water eating up parts, or storms popping up while I'm miles out at sea. The lake is always my preferred spot to be. There's nothing on the ocean that I would want to do that I can't do on a lake, minus the shark fishing. :)

Re: Are you in a boating rut?

I mainly go to lake Herrington which is only about 25mi from me. My dad has an old 87 Bayliner 2450 which stays down there and is fun stay go cruise on and stay in. I bring my run about down most weekends to go rip and run. I also go to Cumberland, Laurel lake, and Cave Run when time and money permits. Even with fuel cheaper it still gets expensive to run all over.

I'm with the SeaDogs. I've had my Sunrunner Ultra 302 for a couple of years and prior to that a Bayliner 2455 and a Searay Sundancer 250. It would be hard for me to trade my saltwater adventures for a lake especially here in Nova Scotia. I guess maybe if we had the Great Lakes I might feel differently but whether it's a run to the Lower Deck on a Friday evening to catch a band, a run to the Shore Club or a weekend in Mahone Bay the coastline of NS always manages to make me smile. I actually even enjoy the odd rough day at sea just to keep the blood pumping.

Re: Are you in a boating rut?

I'm still on my first boat and have never had a trailer for it. I live on the intracoastal waterway off Treasure Island, FL. Even with the gulf it gets sort of boring boating in the same areas, mostly due to range. I'm not much of a fisherman so that's not my main reason for boating.. Mostly it's toodling about looking at the backsides of McMansions, looking for the hidden waterfront eatery, etc. Island hopping is fun but even that gets dull after awhile. I'd much prefer to live on a large, mountain-ringed lake.

Re: Are you in a boating rut?

I just got my own boat and I haven't been to the same place yet ! Use to go out with a friend and we would always be looking for new places. Some were pretty bad so we never went back, others though were pretty nice and we would go back if the fishing was good.

Re: Are you in a boating rut?

My boat lives on a trailer in my yard. I live a couple of miles from a boat launch with direct access to the gulf of Mexico, which is about 50 to 70 miles away, depending on the route taken. I also have direct access to the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway and could go as far as Florida to the east, or Texas to the west. In between the two, is a maze of lakes, ponds, bayous and bays.

I suppose if I were really nuts, I could also launch, make about a 20 mile run to a lock, enter the Mississippi River and take "a little ride" to Minnesota! Anyone wanna sponsor my gas bill? :D

Other than providing an inexpensive storage site for my boat, what my trailer does for me is to save me lots of gas. While there is more area than I could cover in a lifetime within direct access of my nearest boat launch, I use the trailer to get to launches near where I want to operate on a given day. My van may be the pits on gas, but its alot better than my boat!

Re: Are you in a boating rut?

Yup, I'm in a rut, same lake now for the last 8 years. Boat is too big to trailer. I grew up living next to the Ohio River. Boating has always been in my life. When raising my family we checked out about every lake in Ohio. Now my kids are grown and have numerous grandkids. Staying stuck on the same lake that is close is well enough for my wife and I. I do have a smaller project boat that I'm working on for Lake Erie.

Would I be correct in guessing that one of those lakes is Lake Hopatcong?

Re: Are you in a boating rut?

We boat on lake James here in NC,its 20 min to the ramp from the house. However we love exploring,so 4-5 times a year we pick a lake weve never been to and go_Our boat is to small IMO for the ocean (20 ft bow rider) so thats a dream for when the kids are grown and out of the house. We also trailer everytime.

Never in a boat rut i guess.WORK is a rut I cant seem to shake, lol.Gets in the way of my boating !!!!
