Re: Are you in a boating rut?

I often envy the lake guys, who don't have to deal with tides...

But no matter how big the lake, I would always feel 'trapped.' I can't even imagine living away from a coast.

My boats are on lifts on a river-mouth at the Chesapeake Bay, Md. It's big enough for me, but it's nice knowing that I 'could' just take off with a suitcase full of cash for the gas-marinas and head down to Florida...stop in on Tashasdaddy to give him a couple o'boating tips...then on to the NoBrains Atoll, in the Caribbean.

Yeah, that's the ticket.....

Re: Are you in a boating rut?

This is my first year of owning a boat, and I primarily go to the same lake near Mt. St. Helens in WA. It's about a 40 min, scienic drive from my house. It's a beautiful resivour with much to see and explore. I have been out on the columbia river twice this year and although it was a little rought for a 18' boat, it was an adventure. My dream would be to own a place on a large lake and just keep a boat right there for instant access. One day, im still young.:)

I'm in the "No, I don't even know how to use a trailer. Don't own one." category.

That being said, I'm looking around to see if I can borrow a trailer to take it down to Myrtle Beach for a week to cruise the Intracoastal. Maybe even all the way down to Charleston.

Anyone been that way got any ins and outs of such a trip?

I don't get bored on the lake so much. My main complaint is that I bought a power boat to go skiing, but have only skiied maybe four times in two years. If this keeps up I need to seriously consider a pontoon.

Sea Ray dealer wants $2,800 for the trailer, so that won't be happening any time soon.

Our boat is on Lake Joseph in the Muskokas, which connects to Lake Rosseau and Lake Muskoka as well as the river. We could go all weekend and never see the same shoreline. No boredom here.

Lake Powell in N AZ/S UT has so many canyons and diverse points of interest that a guy could spend an entire lifetime on that one lake and still not see it all. The late Stan Jones and his buddy Steve Ward did just that.

A lack of trailering shouldn't imply a 'rut'.

Of course, there is no comparison to the oceans. I'm happy to say I'm back on the Pacific. :)

The list of places I want to trailer to is WAY longer than the list of places I have gotten. We love trailering to new spots though.

I have never been in a boating rut, here in northern Indiana we have so many good lakes to choose from it will make your head spin. But if I could find the right place to put my boat in year round I would in a heart beat.

I'm in a boating rut because my tow vehicle Is running hot and my mechanic doesn't know why(replaced most everything). I haven't had my truck for a couple weeks but I'm setting out tomorrow 40% chance of rain and all.

Re: Are you in a boating rut?

I looked at a 1989 19' runabout this weekend. It was on a covered lift at one of the local lakes and the owner told me there was no trailer. He bought the boat new in 89 from the local marina, they put it on the lake and thats where it has spent its entire life. (Marina stores it in winter.)

To me (maybe its just me) but boating the same lake for 10 years sounds BORING. One of the things I love abotu a small trailerable runabout is being able to take it places and going exploring, seeing the sights, etc. I can't imagine being limited to one lake.

Exactly why I don't spend big bucks living on a lake. I don't wanna feel like I have to boat at a certain lake just because I'm paying fortune to live on it.
