assembled my first motor need some help

hey guys i just finished putting to geather my first outboard that i got in pieces, and i have no spark and im not sure where to begin. i have tried to test for resistance but have no clue on whats going on i have the multi metre on ohms but its reading 0 on every thing i touch. its a 1978 mercury 115hp inline 6. i put every thing togeather as like the manual shows. thanks,stu.

First check power supply to the switchbox, in your first picture, the red wire should be 12V from the battery, the white wire should be 12V from the ignition switch turned ON.

Read the CDI Guide, grounding the correct wire should produce a spark from the coil. This will verify the switchbox good.

Repost what you find out.

the red wire reads 13v and the white wire reads 13v when key is on. i disconnected the distributor wires and bridged red to white and brown to white and tapped the black wire to ground, i se no spark but every time i tap it i can here a click in the switch box

If that is the test spelled out in the CDI Guide, and no spark from the high tension lead off the coil held within 7/16 inch to ground, then the box is bad OR the coil is bad.

Keep testing to determine which.

If you take that wire off the green coil terminal thats attached to carb it will probable spark as its grounding out the output to coil...should only be 1 wire on that terminal and that to coil.
