I don't know if this applies or not, but---
Some of those motors of that time period had a built-in flywheel puller. After removing the recoil starter, leave the starter pawls plate on the flywheel. Using a strap wrench to hold the flywheel, loosen the flywheel nut. It will then turn easy for a couple of turns, then stop. So, after it stops, just keep turning it (hard). When you have applied enough pressure, the flywheel will pop off. Great inventions of bygone years.
