There is nothing there that would cause a spark so that's not an issue. I would think you wouldn't want to because they could get wet and its warm in there.

Wouldn't there be more of a chance to pick up electrical interference there?
Ah, just get yourself a coupla "truck speakers" from radio shack, & put them under your foredeck.

I've built numerous high wattage boat stereo systems, all of them have at least one amp in the engine bay! Not a problem... Just mount it high in the compartment, and keep your positive/ground's to the battery as short as reasonable.

Well ive decided to do some major cutting and placed the amp's elsewhere...really dont need to explain myself to a coastie in the middle of the day. Sometime's are local guy's get a little testy in my neck of the wood's..the local boating communtiy here is a bit off center and stretch's the point of view.

It's okay T.G., This old guy used to drive my ex-wife crazy by playing Pink Floyd's "The Wall" part 2 with my Kenwood surround sound receiver. If it's loud enough it sounds like a helicopters landing in the living room :D

As long as there is no cooling fan (the motor is a potential ignition source), you should be okay.

Every amp I've seen (and I've seen A LOT) has used a small DC brushless fan... Zero chance of sparks, as the fan is essentially solid state, minus a bearing.

There are a lot of good amps that don't have fans. The ones that do are brushless as well.
