Can't wait for more follow-up. I am having a similar problem with my aq131a. I just bought this boat and my wife wont even talk about it anymore. She quickly panics when the boat doesn't start right away.
I have had the boat out only four or five times. If I idle around in a bay at a very low speed and then shut the boat off, it will not restart until it has sat for a good while. Last night I was out with my son and spent some time motoring around very slowly and it died and would not restart. Ended up rowing to the dock and hitching a ride to my vehicle. I noticed the coil seemed really hot.
The PO told me he installed a petronix electronic ignition. Based upon the small amount of time I spent with him, and the fact that he mislead me about some major problems, I don't have much faith he did it correctly.
Actually, the first two times it happened, the starter would not turn over at all when I turned the key. No noise or clicking. I noticed the connector on the power line from the battery, where it attaches to the starter, was damaged and so I repaired it. This last time, the starter cranked just fine, but the motor would not fire up.
One of the tests I read about, to check spark, involved pulling the middle wire out of the distributor and holding it a half inch off the engine while cranking. That sounds like a great way to get a funny video like the one above. Will that work to check the spark?
