I think I missed a smoking gun perhaps.

the below video is directly after stalling, as you see any fuel that is pumped in seems to evaporate...

Is this normal?

That's perfectly normal. Fuel from the accelerator pump chamber is being pumped up through the nozzle as it should. When relatively cool gasoline hits the hot intake manifold and valve, it's going to vaporize and burn. What it's telling you is that there is some fuel available in the accel pump chamber to pump into the throat of the carb. If you're trying to determine if more fuel is available, keep cranking it and pump the throttle. If the carb is receiving a supply of fuel, then the accel pump can keep pumping. If no fuel, it can't pump, and that would indicate a fuel supply problem.

Are you bypassing the installed fuel supply at this time? Either that or a fuel pressure gage are the only ways to determine if it's a fuel sypply issue.

We will plumb in an outboard tank to it, see if bypassing the system affects it in anyway.

It can get really frustrating chasing down problems. That's why it's important to completely verify one system before moving on to the next. Just keep at it and keep up with the process of elimination. You seem to be on the right track.

Can't wait for more follow-up. I am having a similar problem with my aq131a. I just bought this boat and my wife wont even talk about it anymore. She quickly panics when the boat doesn't start right away.

I have had the boat out only four or five times. If I idle around in a bay at a very low speed and then shut the boat off, it will not restart until it has sat for a good while. Last night I was out with my son and spent some time motoring around very slowly and it died and would not restart. Ended up rowing to the dock and hitching a ride to my vehicle. I noticed the coil seemed really hot.

The PO told me he installed a petronix electronic ignition. Based upon the small amount of time I spent with him, and the fact that he mislead me about some major problems, I don't have much faith he did it correctly.

Actually, the first two times it happened, the starter would not turn over at all when I turned the key. No noise or clicking. I noticed the connector on the power line from the battery, where it attaches to the starter, was damaged and so I repaired it. This last time, the starter cranked just fine, but the motor would not fire up.

One of the tests I read about, to check spark, involved pulling the middle wire out of the distributor and holding it a half inch off the engine while cranking. That sounds like a great way to get a funny video like the one above. Will that work to check the spark?

Sorry for the delay, yup that's worked for me checking the spark in the past. We have run cold on our trail of stalling while at idle. The electrics seem fine for us, which leads me to believe it's still a carb problem (fully restored them, as well), possible the tuning there of. But pretty stumped how to tune twin carbs.

Have you actually tuned the eng, set dwell, timing, then you can adj carbs.

No we have not tuned the engine, which in hindsight is pretty dumb. Will set about doing it now. Thanks
