Would love to see pics of pits that you have on your pontoons- Found a thread about mounting brackets but no full fledged pits. Wanting one on mine thats small, simple, out over the water of course & can be stored out of the way- Won't be useing it much but i think it'd be nice to have one when we have friends aboard.

Yes I want to add one also. The price of the SS ones seem a bit out of reach for occasional use. But I'm sure there are some that would fit the bill. PICS and suggestions PLEASE.

Here is one I fabed up using a Weber grill and some 1x1 steel tube.
It uses no holes no drilling no clean up, its just slides over my railing and cooks a mean burger. tell me what you think

Much prefer grilling with charcoal than gas... but on the boat, we use gas -- do you douse with water when you're finished? I know if I shut the air vents on our charcoal grill, it stays hot for several hours... I love your set up... just wondering what you do when you're done with the charcoal?

$50 Coleman grill. 2 $9 heavy duty angle brackets, 2 scraps of aluminum bent into a Z for the bottom legs and I have a nice compact grill for my toon for a fraction of the price of a pre-built one...
DSCN2897.jpg

The holes in the angle bracket just happened to already line up with the screw holes in the feet of the grill. All I had to do was put longer screws in through the bracket and feet. I bent some scraps of aluminum into a Z shape to create "feet" that grab the lower rail to secure the grill from tipping. The whole shebang just hooks over the rail with no clamps, screws or straps to mess with.

Me grillin'!...(The blue bunjies secure my cooler in place when underway, not the grill.)

Mine is a gas for convenient and is permanently mounted to a rail and I had a sumbrella cover made for it.
And a small fold up table is hung in brackets under it.

Same kind of set-up as nightfisher, I just used a cookie sheet for a solid base. Love that Coleman grill, cools off pretty fast, folds up and fits under the seat when cool, grills a mean burger or dog!!

I have the Coleman Roadtrip grill, we used it when we had our camper. now it will follow us to the pontoon. I will set it up on the front deck, along with the trolling motor and anchor. I will have to make something fpr the legs to hold it down to the floor, nso a wave dont knock it over.
thanks Jack

Thats about what i'm thinking- But now i have to decide on gas or charcoal?
I was thinking charcoal- never even concidered gas- Guess gas wud be cleaner but if it's windy does it affect the flame much?

That is a nice setup. I am going to steal this idea. But I will give you all the credit for it. '-)

I wouldn't feel safe with charcoal, especially if it's windy. All that ash blowing back into the boat... Just overall easier to do gas. Wind does make it tough with the gas grill, but I still manage. I also have an adaptor hose I can hook to a 20lb tank with instead of the 1lb bottles if I so wish for.

A good shot that shows how I attached the tabs that hold the grill securely hooked over the rail...

We have the same grill. But something about fire and boat just don't go together to me. We'll probably just take our grill off the boat and put it on the sandy beach to do our grilling. Besides, I don't want the grease drippings on the carpet either.

Some day, I'd like to build a little smoker that we can take with us on the boat. I'll set up the little smoker on the beach and get some ribs started for an afternoon lunch.

A small propane grill made for a boat is perfectly safe and won't drip grease on your floor if installed and used properly. The Magma products aren't cheap, but they are top quality.

OK Toon;3933005) Besides said:
I don't want people eating. Look at peoples 3 year old car or truck most of them look like they live in them. My work trucks look better than peoples vehicles. If they want to eat on the boat they miust bring thier own feed bag. I'd rather cook on shore
