Re: Bass Tracker TX-17 Motor ???

From what I recall, hull speed refers to how fast a sailboat can go based upon the length and shape of the hull

Putting 80HP on a 70HPm rated boat is a bad idea. . . . regardless of how many know it alls tell you it is okay or what pseudo-scientific theories they offer. "Yeah, I danced on the freeway during rush hour and didn't get killed."

The people who designed and built that boat know what is safe and what isn't. Pay attention, basstracker, and you will possibly live longer.

Re: Bass Tracker TX-17 Motor ???

I hate to dig up a thread from last year...but I just came across this. I had a TX-17 (1994 I believe). The guy I bought it from lived on a restricted HP lake and had a 9.9 on it. Needless to say, that didn't last too long. A friend of mine had a 100hp Merc - early 1990's model. The boat was rated for 75hp, but I figured i'd give it a shot -- I had no problems at all. I was a little worried with the weight at first, but it was fine. Unless 3 grown men were all standing on the back deck, it was fine.

The top speed I hit was around 55...that was on a calm day with no wind/no chop. Handling was fine, and hole-shot was incredible. Just my experience though. :)

Just wondering how you made out with the 80??

Here's a pic of the 100...
