You need to check and clean all the connections and I mean all of them. Make sure battery is fully charged and try again.
Go from there.

Re: battery problem

It might be your starter. Have you tried a different battery?

Re: battery problem

Have you tried it with a known "good" battery ???
Take the current battery and have it tested. Many places will do it for free.

Re: battery problem

Try different cables, or do a voltage drop test, you have resistance somewhere. If the starter is good a 1000 CCA battery would easily start the motor.

450 for a starting motor is OK, but 450 on a deep cycle won't do it.

Re: battery problem

i tried different cables and i bypassed the silenoid and the same thing and its drawing the battery from 12.6 to 7.5 when engaged and the red wire did get pretty hot.

Re: battery problem

Which red wire? Heat is where the resistance is. Replace it.

Re: battery problem

the red wire going to the motor but when i used a set of jumper cables and went strait to the starter it did the same thing it turns really slow straining to turn like theres to much compression when i took the plugs out it spens fast

Re: battery problem

Ezeke is spot on. The heat is where the resistance is. Clean connections are only as good as the cables between them.

Re: battery problem

If it drops the voltage of a good battery to 7.5 V, there is a lot of juice going somewhere and there is going to be heat....
Check and clean all the ground connections, if that is OK, Get the starter tested.

Re: battery problem

it certainly sounds like a bad connection to me as well. i tried the same thing, jumper cables right to the starter and mine got real hot too. i just bit the bullett and bought brand new battery cables and she fired right up.

If you are using booster cables and jumping directly from the battery to the starter...(positive) you are eliminating the positive cable as the problem (immediate). So ground the starter back to the battery, as well. If it still doesn't work, suspect the starter.
If it does turn over fine when jumped like that....I'd replace the negative cable....and since they are probably the same vintage, replace the positive one as well.

i found that when i attempted to spin the motor using jumper cables right to the starter, it spun slower than with good battery cables hooked to the same battery.

Re: battery problem

wow that just sounds crazy but im gonna try new wires it just seems like it would work going straight to the starter but it don't when i take the plugs out it spins the motor faster like it wants to start

Re: battery problem

Hate to say it , this engine may be locking up. Do a compression check, add some 2 smoke oil to each cylinder through the plug hole, turn the flywheel by hand a couple of times, re-insert the plugs and crank it.
