Battery question

First, I have a 1978 or 79 Evinrude 85hp Outboard and realized I didnt ask what size battery I needed to crank it over does anyone know what CCA I need?

Just buy the biggest battery you can afford and that will fit your application and go boating. This is a case where size matters, bigger is always better.

make sure its a Marine starting/ deep cycle.
not a maintenance free or automotive battery
big group 24 or even group 27
It does not need alot of power to start but it does to regulate the voltage.

The largest marine starting/deep cycle you can fit. A smaller battery may crank your motor fine but if your motor stops charging you are left running on the battery. I assume that motor has a rectifier and if something goes wrong with it while you are on the water you will have to rely on the charge in your battery to run everything and get you back to safety. A larger battery will give you more run time to make it back to shore, run your lights if you are out at night, power the bilge pump if needed etc. etc.
