Hi All;

I'm replacing my bellows on my Alpha one for the first time. They are cracked up so replacing with new.

My manual refers to a bellows "spreader". Is this a necessary tool or "with some coaxing" can I get it done?

Thanks!

Use the tool or you will be at it for hours and still wont get it on.

Re: Bellows

i did mine without the tool. I removed the helmet. Installed the u-joint bellow onto the helmet first. Then used the helmet to push onto the transom plate. Then installed the hinge bolts

Re: Bellows

Are we talking exhaust or drive bellows?

Re: Bellows

actually I'm replacing all of them - new shift cable as well.

My challenge right now is I can't get the bell housing off. I can tell you I have an "old style" bell housing according to my manual in that the shift cable is on the inside of the housing. BUT the hinge pins look to me as a threaded style as I cannot locate any cotter pin for the hinge. I purchased tool C-91-78310 as per my manual - it has a 6 point and a 16? point side. The 16 point side made sense to me - but it very easily slipped - seems undersized? I tried the 6 point side - but also does not seem to be a perfect fit. the hinge pin looks like a 16?? point threaded hinge - but I can't confirm the threads.

HELP!!!

fyi - the boat is mid 80's if it at all helps
