So I was trying to install new U-Joints on my Alpha one Gen 2 (SN/ - 0D731964), and bent one the ears on the yoke (the one that goes in to the stern drive).

I have bought all the the following new parts;

81819A - Drive shaft assembly - Part 9

816811 - Retainer Ring - Part 14

70937 - O Ring - part 16

823894 - Oil Seal - Part 18

45810 - Washer - Part 25

22339 - Nut - Part 26

I asked a local marina for a quote to transfer the bearings and spacers from the old unit, reinstall on the new, and set the rolling torque.

The drive shaft is removed, and I would only bring the old and the new for transfer.

They came back with a $630.00 quote for labor only.. Does that seem high?? I think so, especially since I watched the video by Chris, and the entire process took like less than 10 mins... I would think it would be a hour at most.. The main reason I was even checking to have someone else do it was because I don't have a the dial indicator torque wrench.. But for ALOT less the $630.00 I could purchase one.. I have all the other tools..

A standard In/Lbs gauge works just as well NOT Ft/Lbs
way too much, where are you located?

Thanks, but I think I am just going to buy the gauge and finish it up

Can you just switch everything over like that without checking the lash and resetting the shims?

Thanks again for all the replies.. I actually found another marina that said it will take less than 30 mins to do.. So I am bringing it there.. That seems a lot more reasonable. One additional question the new yoke assembly came in yesteday (81819A ), and it had 3 O rings on the shaft that goes to the engine.. Mine only has 3.. They look identical in every way, and I ordered it based on the drive SN.. In looking through the parts catalog, the only one the seems to have 2 is the one that came with the Alpha One SS.. But the serial number matches a "normal" 90-94 alpha one.. I also lined them up and they certainly look the same as well.. Thanks

The yoke is being replaced not the driveshaft, when changing the bearings mostly
