Me too :) I like Kachina's as well . . . as I was writing that list, I kept going, "well there's Essex, oh and don't forget Sleek, and what about Nordic? . . . It was kinda getting stupid. At least you know the difference as most of the country doesn't do this AZ/CA Custom deal.

Re: Best Boat????

A different approach ... why does your Caravelle not measure up for this?

Kelly

Having some minor problems with it right now. I think I posted this thread out of anger plus I always wondered what some experienced boaters thought.

I learned that the most sold boats don't make them the best boats.

Up until signing up to this forum the only boating info came from sales men

Re: Best Boat????

Caravelle is really not a bad brand. In fact, I often recommend them to shoppers looking for a value boat. But your 218 deckboat is not a model that they sell very many of. And it's not uncommon for builders to have more problems with the models they sell in small numbers, compared to the same builder's bread-and-butter models. The brands that are really depend on their deckboat sales for a lot of their business are Azure, Four Winns, Kayot, Hurricane, Sea Ray, and Tahoe.

Re: Best Boat????

Well, when I looked at all the 20-22' bowriders at a local show the Cobalt was just "better" in every way, IMO of course. Seats comfortable but not "squishy", fit/finish perfect, wiring all neat, secured, etc. Top materials, best non-wood deck material, etc. Just a very nice boat.

Would I pay the extra $25k for one? No, not me...hey, the most important part of a boat to me is the engine/drive, and Cobalt uses nothing you can't get on a value boat in that area. But if I WERE looking to pay for the best, I'd pick Cobalt. Now, that's only comparing it to the national brands at the show - i'm sure some smaller, regional boat builders also make very high quality bowriders.

Chris Craft also make a nice boat as was said, and the "look" is somewhat different than Cobalt so one may prefer one over the other based on style.

while i love the regulators, contenders, yellowfin, etc... and think grady is just the best (since i own one), once again, the guy isn't fishing (and most of those listed don't even offer a 21'). answer already given: cobalt.

You are boating on a lake with your family. Why do you need a Cadillac of boats? A Bayliner would be perfect for your situation. If you wear a pink polo shirt while driving your Ferrari to your summer house in the Hamptons. Then look at Cadillac's. Boating is an expensive hobby, don't make it more than it has to be.

uhhhh.....I'm not sure the thread starter asked for our opinions on luxury vs. utility purchases. Although I own an inexpensive boat and would NEVER pay up for a Cobalt type quality that doesen't mean it doesn't fit someone else's lifestyle perfectly. Ever wonder why ALL the boats AREN'T Bayliners? Same reason all the cars aren't Kias.

I own a $4k boat but drive a Lexus - without a pink shirt. I like it. I could care less if YOU like it or not.

It's not helpful to project your own lifestyle bias on others. He asked for ideas on the best built boats and bayliner is NOT an answer for that question. Nor are many of the other "good" and value type brands.

OK Holla, let me spell it out for ya. YOUR previous post was judgemental and of no worth to the thread. No one comes here to get your opinion on what "type" of person buys expensive boats. You thought you were being kinda clever, but really just showed a complete ignorance of the boat market.

Clear enough?

I'm gonna throw one more out there(was gonna be two, but I think Cobalt has been covered pretty well).

Azzure

They are a fairly new division of Bennington Marine(the super cushy, decked out pontoon boat people). We were impressed with them when we were shopping around a year ago. Decided not to upsize yet, but still lookin:D

Re: Best Boat????

After rereading my post, I thought I should clarify.

Azzure does not build pontoon boats

They have bowriders, cuddys and deck boats.

I am ingorant to the boat market because I say there is no reason why somebody should have a "Cadillac" of boats on a lake. I am making a call on reality.

I agree, and for that matter, no one should have an actual Cadillac either, or a Mercedes, or a Lexus, or a BMW or........
