Yep, photobucket is what I'm doing now. Personally, I like it, because you can put in paragraphs in between photos.

Already got your eye on the next one....nice. I'd love to get a '58 35 hp myself. I just love the reverse two-tone paint scheme. Funny because I used to have an old '66 33 hp that was great, but got rid of it. Now I wish I had it back. I love my little 20 hp, but hey a few more hp wouldn't hurt ;) Oh well, c'est la vie.

Here's my two cents: Best motor has to be the 18 horse. Reliable, plenty of power, easy to work on, fairly light to handle; I think they're the best made. Another bullet proof motor is the 56 15 horse and the Gale's that used the same 15 block.

Aha. We can post pics again. Here's a pic of my '57 Lark I just got on Sunday for $100. Beat up but good compression.

Cool deal samo. That's a '56 model? HighTrim just got a couple nice classics like that.

Sweet! Man I love that reverse two-tone paint scheme. Gotta be the coolest motor at the ramp too. E-tech, V-max, who? Old school rules!

It's a '57 model. It's a 35hp.

Cool. You and HighTrim must have went shoppin at the same place. He just got a '57 Lark and a '57 Javeline. It seems those ones are not quite as common out here as the later Super Quiet models. I would kinda like to run across one of those '57 Larks, myself.

She still has good compression, got 130 psi with the starter. Should be an easy restore.

Seller said last time out (who knows how long ago, at least a decade) the motor shook at high RPMS and would only start in gear. I showed him a few possible problems, but AFTER I had it in my truck :)

Holy gads, Chris, you do have a beauty there. You can do good with it, just strippin it down and repainting, and have a like new motor.
If they only built cars, as good as these old 35's, there would still be a lot of classic cars on the road. I was watching a thing on Youtube a couple days ago, and the rigorous testing the old Evinrudes went through would blow your mind. Thoughs engines are run in, for 1,000 hours, before they hit the show room floor. So, the average boater will only get about 5% of that, in a 50 year span. LOL
They even blew the covers off, to see how well they held together. Check this out. LOL

I am jealous of the motor project you have samo. And that is a beauty you got there kbait! The video was amazing to watch also. I can't believe that they did those tests back then. I just cringed when they ran over that timber at full speed and the bottomed the boat out wow. Great stuff on this thread :)

Looks like about the only item that wasn't built to last was the coils. Great video Zepher

Cool vid! Those obstacle course runs where scary, but very reassuring. Looks like they could take a lickin' and keep on tickin' ;)

Re: Best OMC motors?

I don't have enough experience to say if one motor is better than another but I do have favorites. I just got a '57 Fastwin 18 hp in trade for an old snowblower. It's rough but complete and has good bones. The lower unit was a mess but the gears shaft and bearing all loog good so a seal kit should give it new life. I love the simplicity and parts availability as well as the looks of the old 55-58 fastwins and the power to weight ratio is hard to beat.
