Re: Best OMC motors?

So, it looks like the Fastwin gets the most votes :D Oh well, I had no doubts.

Well, I also happen to have a 1959 Johnson RDSL-21B and this link here let me see what it and all it's family looked like at the factory. A nice new addition to everyone's photo album. For those of you who are AOMCI members, you may have already seen the thread over there, so I thought I would pass this along to you guys.

That video was wild! It's amazing what they did back then! It makes we want to go find a '60 E75hp now!!! As long as I can afford the gas for it!

Re: Best OMC motors?

I would have to say I am quite partial to my 68 18hp Evinrude, it is a great motor, extremely reliable and super light. It pushed me(265 lbs about 12gal of fuel, maybe 30 lbs of gear in my 12' glasspar 23mph. When I get that lil thing up to max (i think its max) RPM it sounds so good.

But today I finally got my 62 Lark IV 40hp finely tuned today, and she sounds sweet! I bet it would be a great motor if I didnt need a larger motor for my new Manatee.

Yea, those old Larks are awesome old motors. I got the three for a whopping $50 and only had to buy new coils for the '62 Lark IV that I have. I had two good used coils on hand, so I was able to revive the other two Larks. The nice thing is, around here where I live, those old 40's are very common and dirt cheap. A good investment, for someone who doesn't want to spend a lot of money for a good quality motor. Plus parts are cheap too.

Yea, I got my lark for $100, non running, after rebuilding fuel pump, carbs, resetting points, regapped plugs, replacing fuel lines, replace idle adjuster with updated version with metal inside the plastic screw. It runs like a champ, honestley I wish I could run it on my runabout before she sells. Oh well thats life.

Here is a link of it running: http://s770.photobucket.com/albums/...ion=view&current=utf-8BVklERU8wMDA3LjNncA.mp4

Well, fortunately, there are lots of cheap (or free) boats available to put that Lark on. In this day, you can set up a nice outfit for under $400. My last purchase was a 13'6" Sabre Craft with a 1964 Johnson 40hp, all for the tune of $100. A great buy for anyone, especially for someone who doesn't have a lot to spend.
