Re: Best winterizing technics after this winter ?

All of this cold weather certainly has made me wonder how well everything will hold up come spring. This past year was my first year of maintaining my own boat and after debating back and forth I did go with the antifreeze method after a local marina owner said it's the only way he does it. Nonetheless I have wondered in spring how would I know if I did sustain any damage? Would I know immediately after trying to fire her up or would it not rear its ugly head until further into the season?

In most cases you'll know right away. when you fire it up on the muffs come spring you'll see the water trickling or flowing down the engine into the bilge. When you winterized it did you drain the motor before putting the antifreeze in? Did you run antifreeze in through the muffs after you drained the water? if so you should be fine Down to -50. What is the coldest it has gotten where you are?

Second marina on the left when you come in the Beaver. Outside docking. March is a good time to get your deposit in for next season. If the mold was on your cloth, next time spray it all with Lysol and try to take it in dry.

Captains Quarters of the one right beyond it? Tried the Lysol, worked ok. Couldnt catch a break in the weather so unfortunately it did come in with it being a little wet.

Do you make it to waters edge much? Primarily why i boat up that way!

6 months $690.00. Don't have to winterize two engines, water system or shrink wrap. Put the cockpit cover on and it's the same way when i get it out in March.

That's a bit salty, although I could really see how the convenience of not having to winterize would be nice!

Yes - I fully drained the engine / pulled all the plugs and poured antifreeze through the hoses (I didn't use the muffs) so while I should be fine I can't help but have this lingering question in my mind after waking up a few mornings in upstate NY only to see -10 on the thermometer!

Did you have a lot of water drain out? Usually those drain holes are plugged up and need prodded with something like a screwdriver to clear the debris and let the water fully drain. If you did that then there's no reason you should have any trouble.

Even if only 1/2 the antifreeze got to where it was supposed to go you would still be good down to -25. I'm sure you're fine.

I just drained the water out like every year. While it has been unusual to have so many sub -10F days, we always get at least a week of them so I'm not scared ;)

for those tempted to test stuff be aware that sometimes the water pump impeller freezes to the housing and then the fins break off when you turn the motor over. doesn't take much water hanging around up in there. I would guess that the fins get brittle, too, but have no proof.

Jimbo in Dover here in sunny Orrville Ohio I have always pulled all drain plugs on exhaust system and block then filled all hoses with 50/50 automotive antifreeze no worries plus the antifreeze conditions all the rubber part in the cooling system over the winter. In the spring I jack the nose up high put a pan under hull drain then drain the antifreeze put back into jugs for next fall.

The one just beyond it.

Tried the place twice. Never had a good experience there. I had to wait wayyyy to long for a waiter/waitress and after the ordering it didn't show up for another half hour. If your just going to have drinks it might be alright.
There is a place farther down the Ohio on the right that is going to reopen (supposedly) Lock House 6. It was a nice place with good food

If you see this and it's uncovered stop in have a few.

East Brady has a height limit of 10 ft i think. Yes it's a little cheaper and the Pgh pool people get a discount. There owned by the same people.
