brand new as in both the engine and me as a boater.

First of all, there are no problems with the motor. I have about 15 hours on it. I hadn't checked the oil for at least 5-6 hours - the other day I noticed that there was too much oil - about an inch worth on the dipstick.

I called the dealer and his theory was that some gas had gotten into the crankcase. One day I did tighten up the gas tank vent and left the hose hooked up to the motor. Of course the tank looked like a beach ball after it heated up for a day. I immediately learned to vent the tank and remove the hose from the motor during storage.

I took out all of the oil immediately and I determined that I had almost a pint too much oil. There was no "gas" smell or shean to it. The consistency of the oil was...well - oil -like.

I filled the reservoir with the proper amount of oil and ran the engine recently - it ran fine - no smoke, smell, etc.

First of all, how does gas get into the crankcase? and, secondly, I probably put several hours on the engine during the overfill but I didn't run it very fast because I am still in the break in period... any chance I damaged the rings, etc.

Thank you for your efforts on my behalf.
