Man that is sweet looking Hoss. Where did you order your shark hyde from? And I read where you sanded down scratches and such, does the shark hyde buff them out as well? Cause man your hull just looks freaking awesome and like it is brand new.

Kelly, I went to Sharkhide.com and ordered from the site. Got it from California in 2 days! Couldn't believe it got here that fast. I kept stepping up to finer sand paper until finally using steel wool. In some areas where I missed a rough spot, the polish took the scratches out... barely visible. Thanks for the compliment buddy. I'll tell Ya' if you decided to use this stuff you won't be disappointed. The picture's don't capture the mirror like finish.

Thanks Ollie, I'm pleasantly surprised how well it's going too. I'm also VERY curious how well it holds up. The good news is.. it's stripped and ready to prep for paint at the slightest aggravation. Keep me updated on your project when you get underway. It's cool to see how many visions people have for the same blank slate.

Re: Bighoss' 16ft SS Rebuild

I really underestimated what a pain riveting the floor down was going to be. Also getting my big #@$ under the splashwell with a hand riveting tool. Kinda' looks like Pooh Bear stuck in the hole out there! I read in a few threads riveting it down was a pain, EZ and a few others screwed it down and I'm one more failed gimbral from doing the same. Another heads up for some poor soul wanting to restore his boat,,,,PULL THE DAMN SPLASHWELL!! I thought I'd save time leaving it in...negative. Whatever time I've saved pulling and putting back in has been tripled by trying to operate around it.
I ordered my rivets from the Rivet gallery, pretty good prices.

I can't belive your having that much trouble with the floor, I think you guys are using too short of a rivet. I special ordered aluminum rivets with a 1x5/8 inch max grip and never had a single problem other than two shanks breaking off above the rivet. And those I just tapped down out of sight.

Dozer, they keep popping without pulling the deck down tight. The aluminum shank breaks too soon. I ordered the same ones...it's gotta be my hand tool (older than dirt), I need a break and a reason to buy a new one. Off to Lowes....

Hey Hoss, I'm using an ait riveter and aluminum steel shank. I wasn't sure about the steel shanks till I started pulling the deck down and they worked great, but I also have 230lbs standing on the deck to hold it down.

I had a few spots on the Islander deck that were being a pain. I ended up sinking a few stainless screws to make it happen, it's all good.:D

I was just gonna suggest that. Use the screws to pull it down. You can later replace them with rivets if you want.

Jas and EZ, yup that's exactly what I did. Used stainless screws in a few places. Thanks for the info.

So despite the blazing heat the floor is in and looks pretty good. Going to put the Nautolex sandstone in hopefully tomorrow.

That deck looks great, almost like it's one piece:)

Cutting the vinyl to fit prior to installation helped us a bunch.

We started in the middle and smoothed it out from there. Looking forward to seeing the interior.

Nice work:D

Glad to see that I am not the only one who slowed down in August on restos and posts to the forum. Any further progress?

Nice job on the deck, looks nice & neat. You can sure fit a lot more pink stuff in an SS than you can a Jet Star!! :)
