Re: BIL Wiped Out

I am sorry for your troubles. The bank may be a way to go but you will need help. I have had clients do goofy things with their money and as a result have turned lawyers, insurance agents, contractors and even a client's family memeber in to the proper authorities. Have you contacted the financial fraud department at your local PD? Do not rely on your LEO to take this to them. Make the call. That dep. will/ should persue the banks if they can.

And What is BIL or GIL????????

People get away with this stuff for exactly the reason SgtMgr said ... there is a limit to how closely bank tellers can examine each transaction.

back before computers, the checks were hand file, at the bank by a person. they check every signature, (my exwife use to do it). now everything is encoded on the bottom of the check, read by computer, and photographed. most are then shreaded, unless you have an account that returns you checks. never touched by human hands.

GIL? Where did I type that? I did GF as in girlfriend

When he went to open up a new account at another bank. (a story all by itself) They told him that his bank should have caught the signature. She would sign it sometimes as First Name and then F Name. My bank told him that they carry insurance for this type of problem. His old bank that he had for 30 some years I had at one time. I had the account for only 6 months and was not happy with some of the mistakes they made with my account. So I closed it and moved my money to another bank that I have now.

When he went to open up an account at one bank, they wanted 2 forms of ID, then a waiting period, and added all kinds of benefits with it. All he wanted was a checking account and that is it. I took him to my bank and got a simple checking/savings account without bells and whistles.

I don't know if the manager at my bank was BSing us, but she said that their computers can spot irregularities in the signatures. I do know that when I had my hand all bandaged up long ago, I had my wife (then girlfriend) write a check out for me. It got picked out and I had to rewrite the check and pay a returned check fee to the business. My bank said the only way that she could write a check is if her signature was on a authorization card.

I don't think this girl will get any time if she is convicted. She has leukimia(sp) and a bad blood disorder. That was her excuse for finding street drugs since most docs anymore are limiting the amount of pain killers. Still no excuse if ya ask me.

Crack has gotten bad in this area. Two of my closest friends became addicted to the crap. As soon as I found out that they were abusers, I quit associating with them. One of them even let my teen son (at the time) drink and smoke crack with him. Another reason I cut ties with him. They went from having nice homes/family to having nothing. Then there are many others that I know that have done the same thing. The really sad part is what it does to the kids. The teens of these people are the most ruthless ones I've ever seen. They seem to always been in as much trouble as their parents.

Re: BIL Wiped Out

On the signiture part of the discussion- I 'haven't signed my name and it mattered on anything in the last 4 years, and then it was to buy my wifes truck. When we built our house the bulk of materials came from a supply house. The majority of the rest came from a big box store (BB). I set up a charge card through them. I started out with a $2800 limit. By the end of the first week I picked up the phone and increased it to $5000. About a month later increased it to $7500 same way. At the store again making a large purchase I increased it to $12500. I was not asked for ID at the store to do so, only my cc which does not have a pic on it. I made an effort to NOT sign my name on any transaction. I usually signed it "stolen" or "ha ha, I'ma theif". During the course of construction I spent over $17,000 at this particular chain. Not one time was I asked for id to finish a transaction. Tell me theres not a reason to be paranoid...................

It's definately all about the money. None of them care about your security. Even with all the fraudulent charges visa and mc have to absorb, they don't care because they make billions charging retailers fines for not being "PCI compliant".

Yup ... and why the only one I co-habitate with is my 2-1/2 year old son. Then again, its a good thing he's just a cool little bugger 'cause he sure does "get" a lot of my money! :D

Ditto! Mine's 5 now.

Sorry to hear about that SS... and don't take the word of the cop. They don't know every detail of the law.

I always worry that the guy in front of me didn't pay, and I get stuck with his bill.
