Bilge pump hose question

Hi all,

I received a RuleMate 1100 automatic bilge pump as a gift. Unfortunately, the output is 1 1/8" and my existing bilge hose is 3/4". Can I simply get an adapter to step-down the output to 3/4" or will that mess up the pump? If this is not a good idea I'll see if I can exchange it but I'd rather avoid that if possible.

Thanks!

It will increase the water pressure comming out the end of the hose, but i don't think ti will really make the pump work any harder.

It won't hurt the pump if you put an adapter in there, but you'll be severely limiting the capability of the pump. The 1100 will still draw more energy, but it won't give you it's full GPH. You might get 500 to 700 out of it. Get a new thru-hull fitting and new hose, you'll be glad you did.

Concur, if you are going to go to the trouble of putting it in do it right, it will probably be easier anyways.

What ever you use to neck it down will be rigged and stands a chance of coming loose then you will just be pumping water back into the boat, as stated, do it right you will be glad you did.

I would leave the original thru hull as it is hard to drill the hole bigger and just put the new one in somewhere else on the tansom.

Ayuh,...

The odds are, all you'll need is the Hose....

Many if not most thru-hulls are Stepped for both sizes...

I agree with all above, go with the hose size the pump calls for. Otherwise you should just get a much smaller pump that won't move nearly as much water as the one you have(which is a very nice pump) In an emergency you want to be abel to move water out as quickly as possible and the bigger hose will do just that. Even if you have to buy a bigget thru hull I would do it. If the hole has to be enlarged it isn't that bad to do it there are a few ways to go. Or leave the one that is in there now(if it still works) and install the new one with a new thru hull fitting and have the assurance of two pumps.
