Bimini Advice

Been looking for the answer on here, as I'm sure I'm not the first to have this problem. Got a bimini, looking at how/where to attach it. Going to attach it to the outside of the window, but when it gets put down it'll block the motor from tilting up. I was thinking of making some kind of rest so the bimini doesn't go all the way down.

Any thoughts?

Re: Bimini Advice

I mounted ours to the inside and works great on our boat.

I don't think their is any one way to mount it..... just what works for you and the boat.

Re: Bimini Advice

Was just wondering if there were others out there who had a outboard/bimini conflict and how that was overcome.

I've noticed that some use tracks so you can push the center support forward a bit when you put it down so it doesn't interfere with the outboard in any way.

Hi Dolfan0925, just this weekend we (my wife and i) installed a bimini by Carver, as an accesorie Carver offers an option to this in a form of a brace so the bimini when it is not in use (and in the protective boot) rests on these braces, when the cover goes on they (the braces) are at rest on on the sides of the boat...i think they call it gunnell or something like that, here are two pictures...hope this helps.

From your photos, it looks like the bimini is possibly installed backwards. Of all the bimini's Ive seen (mine included), the main bow, the longest one, is installed towards the rear, with the shorter bows towards the front. Just an observation and not sure if it makes a difference or not.

Here is one example.

I posted another picture where the bimini is shown to sport the main bow towards the rear of the boat...i hope it's installed correctly...thanks Moody Blue

Re: Bimini Advice

Hi Moody Blue , after i watched the video clip you recommended i noticed that the bimini set they put together it is not even close to a Carver. The stitching is all over the vinyl coated canvas ...that's one thing, secondly,i noticed that the plastic parts they use are definetly chinese made  (Carver is a Made in USA product :D) and i'm only saying that because they look cheaply made...otherwise the bimini is ok.I don't know about the zippers and stuff but if i were to buy another bimini top there is only one brand i would use, and we know that a boat can only be judged by it's cover.
Thank you,
Dan

Re: Bimini Advice

I have the same problem on my CC, When i want to trim the motor up i just flip the Bimini to the bow of the boat and secure it to the bow rail with a bungee cord and when i use the boat i flip it to the stern or have it up. Also my top is on a sliding track when i can move it 12in forward and backwards to help adjust where it lies down. Here's a pic its not great but the only one of the top down on my computer.

Re: Bimini Advice

Great thread. I need a bimini and may have a similar dilemma - older outboard runabout. Has the swept back windshield too. I saw the braces and liked that idea but never thought of tracks. Although with the windshield his gunnel space may be limited.

On my boat a previous owner has what might be a track or attachment point on the windshield frame. I see the snaps for the cover, but this seems different. Not sure if that is an option or recommended - mounting to the windshield rather than the hull. May be strength issues.

Re: Bimini Advice

The convertible top (snaps to windshield) that came on my Maxum has poles in the rear so that when stowed, it sits up and over the cockpit. On the factory bimini, there are also poles in the front that attach to the windshield so that there are no nylon straps at all. This is the route I'm going to go since I really can't stand the nylon straps.

Re: Bimini Advice

I just leave mine "up" like this;
Lift2.jpg

Until I trim the motor up, and then I lower it to rest on motor (only when it goes on the trailer, of course)
