Blazer A/C now.

Now that I am "done" with the house AC is time to get the blazer AC taken care off. This is a r134a system in a 1999 Chevrolet Blazer S-10 4.3, 4wd, 4 doors. Back in the day when I was working in the motor I moved the compressor to the side and left it there, hooked to the system for quite some time. When I was putting the motor together I realized the hose going into the condenser was loose. I tighten the hose, got the car working and follow to fix the ac on it.
I have never had problems with this system before so I think piece of cake, vacuum, test for leaks, vacuum some more, charge and be done.... It went that way until it came the time to disconnect my gauge lines from the service ports. The suction line had a slight leak that seemed to stop but the liquid line did not stop leaking until I put the cap on it. Next day the ac is still working and I take the liquid line cap and it is still leaking. I changed the suction line valve but the liquid line valve is not quite the same. When I went to try to change the core valve in it I see what it looks like a rubber ball in the port. Im not sure if I am supposed to pull that ball out and replace the valve or what? Any help on how to fix that valve? Where can I get a cheap uvdye kit or just the light. The guys that attempted to fix the house ac had one kit that was the light, some googles that enhanced the uv color and the dye itself. I need the light at the minimum. Any good prices outhere?
Thanks!!!!

Re: Blazer A/C now.

no, thats a non-service valve. just go to the parts store and buy a replacement service port set. they are like $8 or so. you replace the whole service port, it just unscrews off the line itself. sometimes they can be a pain to get broke free though.

also, with as long as the system has been down, you might as well replace the drier while you're at it. you'll never get super cold air in the system as I guarantee you that the activated charcoal in the drier is completely moisture soaked by now. you'd be sitting there for days trying to boil out the moisture in the drier with a vac pump.

I will add, the goggles/ yellow tinted glasses are not an optional accessory while using the UV light. They are worn to protect your retinas from the UV light.

I only see one shrader valve in the suction like. The liquid line looks different as I described originally.

I could replace the entire line for that much. I'm just replacing the port on an empty system, don't do it for a living so the $10 replacement port is enough. Thanks!

We're in the USA. What does 200 stand for? Here it's 30 inches.

Probably talking microns, or mtorrs.

It's a more accurate way of measuring vacuum from the theoretical perfect vacuum. Usually you don't see it used except in high vacuum applications, like semiconductor manufacturing.

Inches is relative, and can actually vary by a couple of inches depending on the weather.

(edit) on second thought, 200 millitorrs would be 20% air. Must be microtorrs. (.000001 atmosphere)

That high pressure port is not coming off easily. Looks like I will have to get an used line from the junkyard or get a new line. Any tips on how to get this sucker out?

Man!!!! I used my press and the valve deformed before it came any loose. Will go to the junk yard tomorrow, will check how much are they. The new valve is $11 and the line with a new valve is 43 so if the line is anywhere $10 used im just getting the new one.... man!!!

When I took the acummulator off it had oil in it. Now I wonder if I have to add oil or if what is in the refrigerant is enough... Doing the final vacuum now.

Vacuum in the HVAC universe measured by anyone with 1/2 a brain is measured in microns...Analog gauges are worthless for vacuum and manometers are old school...Microns is where its at...<500 microns for 5 minutes = dry sealed system...A micron gauge is the only way I will say a unit is good to go after repair where I have to open the system...

Re: Blazer A/C now.

I could not pull a decent vacuum on this system so I used the dye/freon can and found out not only I was leaking at the high pressure port but also at the compressor. It is not leaking where the hoses come in but from inside. Im looking to see if there is a kit for this compressor, if not then the junk yard is my next stop. What a pain!!!!

BTW, what can one use to wash the dye so I can check again after the compressor is changed/repair?

Are you replacing the accumulator? If so add 2 or 3 ounces.

Not in the automotive world. What are you working on???
Im trying to disassemble this ht-6 compressor but I cant find instructions for a full disassembly anywhere. this is all I have found: http://flashoffroad.com/Maintenance/hvac/airconditioning/clutchPullyService.htm and that is as far as I have come. I dont want to order anything until I see the unit inside. Any help will be appreciated....
That compressor is notorious for leaking. DON'T try to fix it. Find a good used one or just by a reman., their not that expensive. Advance Auto Parts, Rockauto.com, Bumper to Bumper, etc.

Yes, I read that, your advise is sound and good... However, from $15.00 to replace the seals to $150 min to get a decent compressor, thats a huge difference. I had this blazer since 2001, it lasted 15 years before it started leaking so I want to look at it and see if im willing to fix it. I have read many reviews where people has fix it with no problems and where some of the leaks are due to other factors that can be remedied and extend the life of the compressor. This blazer is pushing 300k and honestly I dont think it has much more life on it, at least not for me. Next year bonus priority is to get me another suv. I hate to spend that much money in a compressor... I probably will just not have a/c if it comes to that.
