2014 Evinrude e-tec 250. I need help figuring out the model # of a new lower unit I should order used hopefully off ebay. Or any other suggestions would be great. I live in Annapolis,MD.

Lower unit had ALL water in it beginning of season, I had it cleaned up and a few parts changed, new seals water pump etc and put new gear oil in there. It ran great for a few trips out but today the motor quit on me. Sounded funny starting it up and was louder then normal running and sounded like maybe some grinding. Motor keeps turning off soon as i put it into reverse or forward. Lots of black dust as you can see in the picture. I included model number of motor, I am not sure what to order or look for. The ebay link below was the closes looking one I could find.

Are used ones on ebay not a good option? or anywhere else except SEI? Tryin to gather as much info as I can. SEI looks to only carry them in color black which will add an extra step.

What do I do with my current lower unit? is it trash after replaced? or Can i send it somewhere to have a backup one day? sell it?

Gearcases can be rebuilt. There may be some professional rebuilders, who will sell you a rebuilt, and take your trade.

Ebay will sell you a parted out motor part. It will be used to some extent, extent unknown, care unknown.

I would price used and see how lucky you feel.

Painting a gearcase is not difficult. I am surprised SEI doesn't sell those in white.

Check out Fairwinds in the Cape. I'm not familiar with the new ownership, but they used to have an active repair service and a large supply of used parts.

If they have to replace gears / bearings / shafts with factory parts , that sounds very fair

Gee, I expect a new gearcase from SEI would be $1K or less. You are willing to pay $1K or more for someone to paint it white?

A new standard rotation gearcase from SEI is less than $1000. You will need to see if it will fit your year motor.

A new CR gearcase is more like $1350. Again you will need to see if it will fit your year motor.

Spray paint is $3

The shop said the gearcase is too bad to repair. Ugh. they said a new one is 6900$ which is very expensive. Can anyone help me find a used one for sale? Do i need the magnum 2 gearcase? I included the motor model # in the 1st picture. This is going to ruin the rest of my summer

Post the model# Serial#
The "magnum" is probably a name for something to do with the powerhead and the gear housing is the same as the rest.

SEI says the Magnum units start at 1150$ and go to 1350$
I guess magnum does make a difference???
Ask SEI???

motor serial # is DE250PXABB 2014 e-tec 250
From what i can find the model # for the white one is 5009259.

The PROBLEM, is this is the counter rotating one. I dont think SEI makes one, I cant find a used counter rotating one anywhere. There are plenty of normal ones on ebay for around $2200 ish, just no counter rotating :(
