hello everyone
i am thinking about getting a boat for a really cheap price. the present owner doesnt use it and has no motor. i just need to buy the hull. the problem is the boat gelcoat on the rt side and rt rear transom are flaking off. The boat was parked next to a mobile home that caught fire and the heat caused the gelcoat problem. the question is im worried since the boat is fiberglass what are the chances that the fiberglass is damaged. dont know much about fiberglass but is this boat junk and not something i should get? the hull doesn't look warped or burned but i may be wrong. when i have a chance i will upload a pic of it.

really need to see a pick of it.....

but chances are its fine.

but the price is free.......no pay....no money exchanged....
are you going to pay to get a head ache off someone else's hands?.....

remember, first off, any glass boat can be fixed.

even if the glass is compromised, a few layers of 1708 and a quick gellcoat spray, and its done.

having said that, if the boat is an older boat, that there are lots around........forget it....get something that does not require as much glassing, (what ever you get for free is going to need a transom/deck and stringers any how) , so if you have to do that much work on an old hull, why do something that was in a fire?

Agree with my man oops. Free or walk away, unless this by chance is a special, unique, rare make/hull. Pics always help, too.

Still interested... go look at it, IF, and only IF, it is 100%, REPEAT 100%, solid, and its FREE, did I say FREE???!!!. Haul it away, otherwise walk away...

You are probably looking at a re-string and transom job...

I agree with what's been already stated, however, it's a different story if the trailer and controls go with it.

yes trailer and controls go with it. i took a look at it and the only problem i saw was the gelcoat problem i mentioned before. i was thinking about getting it for the restoration im doing for my boat. i will need the center console, steering wheel, seat, etc. but if it was a good hull then restore it later on. he will take $250 for the boat and trailer. $300 if he delivers it to me.

What about the missing title? How easy is it to get a duplicate or replacement title? Was it titled in his name and he lost the title (perhaps in the fire), or did he buy it with out a title?

Yes, let's hope that the rig is not hot for reasons un-related to the fire. LOL.

Given that you are using it as a parts boat (not your primary boat), and the trailer comes with it, then maybe go for it if has the parts you need, and assuming you can resolve the title issues.

If you buy it and use that hull, do something about the foam. That's a great place for standing water to collect.
