Boat = Country girl goes priss?

When I was a child, I always loved running around catching grasshoppers and snakes and whatever. We built go carts out of plywood and whatever motors we could find. We played with gasoline, burned ants, and did all the usual stuff.
After serving in the Army, I came back home and met this girl that was perfect for me. She was raised on a farm, and had twisted the necks of a few chickens. She wasn't afraid of bugs or a day fishing in the pond. She was never afraid of a little hard work and sweat.
She's been a wonderful mother and wife, and keeps me on the straight and narrow. But tonight, she truly surprised me.
A few months back (early spring of course) she said "I want a boat". Hell, I did too. So I set out in search of our first boat. I researched and found myself on iBoats. At that point in time, I didn't know what a transom, stringer, bulkhead was. And I was pretty sure port meant the back of the boat.
So, I dug in my heels and started learning about boats. Thanks to the many knowledgeable members of this forum, we ended up purchasing a wonderful 1980 Rinkerbuilt and have been having a lot of fun on her so far.
But, tonight, while she helped me change the oil on the boat, she went all prissy! "Oh yuck, I got oil on my hands.", "Ew, it stinks.", "Wah! I need a shower!" And kept it up!!!!! She recently turned 43, and I'm 40, so my question is.... is this normal?
Once the wife gets the boat, she turns prissy? Man! I wish I would have known!

;P

P.S. - The new boat decals shipped today. She should be named and numbered within the next few days.

Sounds like you're a pretty lucky guy. Don't worry about her freaking out over the oil. Probably reminded her of something from childhood days. Just let her be responsible for the things she likes to do on the boat and you take care of the oily stuff. lol.

Sea ya...

She is just positioning herself for the first splash in anticipation of you being overcome by the Captain Bligh Syndrome!

She just laughed and said I'd have to walk the plank.

Great, now I have to find a plank and figure out how to mount it on a runabout.... ;P

You don't need a Plank just tell her you are the Captain and She is the Admiral, if she is anything like my wife she will promptly tell you she already knew that and it was about time that you admitted it...

Look at it this way do you really want oil on the hands of the woman that makes you a sandwich? And before you guys go all yahoo on me, Mine does so there!

Anyway, get her involved either driving the boat or the tow vehicle(most likely the boat) it makes the ramp so much easier!

When on a boat (aside from emergencies) all women are allowed to lounge around in nothing but a bikini (or less...) if they want. That's their time to relax and look good.

...while we do all of the towing, backing, launching, driving, anchoring, grilling, loading, washing, etc...:(

it's not the boat that caused it. In fact, the boat may have delayed the inevitable. Brace yourself. Worse is coming.

Not only did I suggest us getting a boat (ok, so I may have had a hand in trading his car for it), I also help him with anything that has to be done to it. It's a joint effort... even if my part is sitting in the boat (beer in hand) for moral support while he's fixing something :D

sounds like a lot of fun, twisting heads off of chickens, until some one gets a little oil on their hands. Just sleep with one eye open, you might be next...

Heh! Thanks everyone for the moral support. Of course I'm just ribbing her a little bit. We both have always taken these journey's hand in hand, and I look forward to spoiling her as much as I can.

Much love iBoats community!

Real men have a box of shop rags and waterless hand cleaner near by when working on greasy stuff and changing oil, and they direct their helpers to it should the need arise.

Sounds so familiar. I just got my first boat too and the first time I let my girlfriend of 5 years drive (soon to be fiance and hopefully wife) he first comment was "we are going to need a bigger boat... something faster that we can sleep in" It took everything I had to not pop the question right then and there!

Yeah, she's already wanting to upgrade to a cuddy. My plan is to work my way there. I'm on a tight budget, and we got this boat at a bargain for $1500 for the boat and trailer. My plan is to fix it up a little and keep it in good condition, and next summer, once that's paid off, sell it, and look for something in the $3000 range, and keep doing that every year. I've seen some pretty decent cuddy's out there for a good price. Here's some local to me that I could be in within 2 years:

http://lexington.craigslist.org/search/boo?query=cuddy&srchType=A&minAsk=3000&maxAsk=6000&hasPic=1

Of course there's the balance of gas required to drive the boat around, and to get it to and from the lake. It might end up being more economical finding storage close to the lake(s).

brew, 'ya got yerself a keeper! ;)

Married me a good 'ol Country Girl, too. Daddy brought her up wrenchin' on junk. Transmissions, carbs, doing her own brake jobs (which she will still do). She'll get elbow-deep in anything right beside me........

......but she refuses to change oil in a vehicle! Women, go figure
