Boat fell off lift and smashed some rocks.. What are your thoughts on this damage ?

Hi ,

Sadly the water came up 16" over night combined with a bunch of white caps which resulted in my boat coming off the lift and washing ashore. These two spots are the worst of the damage. What are your thoughts ?

So the water came in over the side of the boat as I tried to push it back out into the lake. I would say the boat filled up 1/3 on the angle. We got it turned around and pulled the plug.

Do you have insurance? If so I'd contact them first, the damage looks like it needs to be repaired by a pro, but the water intrusion is quite serious as well.
That is one reason why I put up with bottom paint and the other hassles of salt water boating, we keep our boats on rotating moorings and they are safe even in tropical storms, had several over the years. We do pull boats if a hurricane is forecast but for tropical storms, usually not. A 200 lb mooring and two pennant lines works well for a 20' bot.

I was thinking as I saw my boat crashing against the rocks... why don't I have insurance. I'm honestly super handy and feel like if I have to pull the stern and the motor, cut out the transom and redo the fiberglass I'm down. But I'd rather reach out to pros to see if you guys think that's necessary.

Luckily it's not salt water. No water in the oil . Tomorrow I'm going to pull the spark plugs and see what's up.

I will definitely be tieing my boat to the lift in the future.

Might want to pull the starter, it may have been under water, fresh water you might be able to dry it out. Salt water it would be totally trashed.

In my opinion, if you're planning to do it yourself, I would pull the motor, drive, and transom assembly... you have a hole in your boat from impact, which means you probably have stress cracks propagating much further away that you probably can't even see... The whole transom is probably compromised..

I'd say you should probably redo the whole transom, both inside and out... Its a lot of work

I will drill holes and see if the transom is rotted aswell as do a stress test on the stern to see if the transom has flex when I put weight. I'm not afraid of pulling the stern and motor. I've done it before in a couple hours.

Unfortunately I don't have insurance. It's not in Salt water fortunately..
