If you're using the Bondo Resin, it already has surfacing wax in it. The reasons people don't like the bondo resin are...Expensive, it has wax in it and you never know how long it's been on the shelf and it DOES get old and useless after a while. Another reason is when you're glassing and you lay down a layer and then can't get back to it for a week, The wax has risen to the surface and must be sanded and cleaned off in order for the next layer of glass to adhere properly. The SW is used so the resin will cure faster and be Tack Free. As long as you do all of your layers when the resin is still a bit tacky theres not a problem.

I thought I read somewhere where it had wax in it. I thought it was rather cheap. About $40/gal. Seems like when I started this project 10 years ago the poly resin I was buying was about $50 or 60/gal. The epoxy being about twice that. Hoping it hasn't been on the shelf long. Being as this is not a huge boating area I am taking a pretty big risk. My recent layers were not back to back while tacky. Been using an orbital sander, shop vac to suck up the dust, & then wiping down a couple times with acetone. Thanks again for all of your responses. Your really helping this rookie out!

Laminating Poly, which is what we normally use, runs about $26 a gallon. But you have to pay shipping and HAZMAT fees sooo by the time you get it to your house it's about $40 too!!! If you could find it locally you could save a few bucks. I has NO wax and you can put down layers a week apart with just a simple wipe down with acetone.

no No NO to the flex seal. I'd use Weldwood Contact cement for the carpet

Does it matter if it is the gel formula or not? They had both there at Lowe's "standard" & "gel". Gel was a couple bucks more but had fiber glass as one of the uses so I went a head & got it. Carpet should be in any day now so might be doing that this weekend. :D

read up more flex seal is just a expensive knock off of whats been used for years epdm rubber, still if it was colored id use it because that **** would be nonskid for sure, if anyone has noticed almost every surface on my boat is nonskid lol , I have been known to slip and fall off more then a few boats so I feel anyplace you walk on should be nonskid period! I called 3m/bondo a few months ago all of there products have wax in them

No Title

I won't be doing a great deal of fishing in it so I am going with carpet on the floor. I did spray a couple cans of this in the bow area. I figured it would help keep the fiberglass from getting banged up when things were put into the storage under the bow seats. Looks pretty good & should be functional. Well it's looks good if the pictures were not upside down. Don't know why they got flipped like that & I don't have a program on this work computer to fix em'

Aahhh! I have been trying to order things so I wouldn't have any down time waiting on parts. All was running pretty smooth until my carpet missed the truck. Probably will get it this week around Wednesday. Don't know how much progress will get done though, heat index is averaging 100 this week. Last thing I will want to do after working in the heat for 8-10hrs. is go home & do it for another 2 or 3. Probably be doing mostly parts clean up in the house.:D

JMHO.... Flexseal is just for those who don't want to do it right the first time cause it looks so simple stupid. I've seen jobs in plumbing where the leaky joint wasn't fixed properly so they sprayed on this crapola and a month later it leaked again. PIA getting it off to make the repair so I charge 3x what I would of to the customer for being soo lazy dumb.

My house in Florida had the "Flex-Seal" plumber special quick fix on almost everything. It all leaked and all went into the trash.

I am not trying to fix anything. Just trying to add another layer of insurance. WOG said NO so I have not sprayed any down where the carpet will be, just up in the bow section where the storage area is.
Yes half a$$ fixes drive me nuts! If you can't do it right the first time DON'T do it at all! Just like you said kcassells it ends up making more work for the guy that has to do the real repair. Not sure if you have ever watched the DIY show "Holmes Makes It Right" before but it makes me fume to see how some contractors take advantage of people with cheap fixes.

again I wasn't saying use flex seal for plumbing repairs but I mean whats difference in flex seal to bedliner paint? not trying to hijack thread either flex seal is a rip off when you can buy a gallon of epdm rubber for allot cheaper :)

Oh come on man! It says right in the commercial "it can save you thousands"! LOL I only bought a couple cans but it was expensive. It was like 10 or 11 bucks a can. What is epdm again & where can you get it? I don't think I am going to do anymore on my boat but may see the need for something like that in the future.

epdm is a rubber that you can use on rv roofs and allot of other applications , we once built a koi pond in the back of a truck using epdm to line it guy used to haul fish back and forth so he thought it would be cool to have , don't ask me how he drove and didn't slosh the fish right out lol
