I like the Krab, personally
Yup me too! The motor, trailer, and 'bling' on that thing's worth the asking price. Imo.

I'd be all over that 18' Lund for $1,500.

Just a word about power. A moderately powered boat falls into blah territory when you start adding passengers and "stuff". If you like to take some buds or ladies out, look for some HP.
I'd imagine the Lund we're all drooling over is adequately powered... my 18' fiberglass with a 71 70 HP chrysler fully loaded must be 2500 lbs with e afew people and I can hit 28 with me, a buddy, a full tank and a cooler...

Plus you won't have to mix gas.

It's like a car on water........= less noise.

Just take good care of it.;)

That Lund is a nice deal.

If it's as nice as it looks in those pictures, and since it's been reduced (meaning the seller is motivated) there's a reasonable chance it's being sold to generate cash ... could mean a SWEET buy.

Wait, are we talking about the original Krusty Krab (1960's fiberglass hull boat) or the new green glastron "Krusty vibe" boat?

What's the minimum price (assuming seats are rotted and maybe floor) that would be fair to offer the guy with the Lund? It really is a nice looking boat (assuming those are recent pics). That guy is 2 HOURS away from me - I've asked if he could send me some more detailed pictures before I take the drive (and to give me more specifics on what the interior needing work means).

It's got a $1000 motor on it and a trailer. His asking price is pretty darn fair!

^^^^^ Agreed ^^^^^

That's kind of a "go make sure it's real and grab it" offer.

Alrighty then - let's make the Lund happen. I got a call back from him - he said he's just getting ready to winterize it and put it away for the season as there aren't too many other interested parties. I'm going to head over there and take her out for a test - if all checks out I should be bringing her home.

late to the thread, but based on the things you've found, I'd vote on the lund too. it seems like a great price based on the info available. The thing to check is that the motor checks out. if they don't have compression or other problems, it's a hole in the water to throw money into.

I didn't see anything wrong with the original glastron IF the guy could tell you about the repairs to the floor including repairing stringers, etc. A little curious about the water flying about though. Definitely a mechanic review would be best. The other things about it sounded positive, and in the 2500 to 3000 range would not be too bad for a starter boat.

In the price range you are looking, expect to spend some money to fix things that need attention. I went that route with my first boat. It's not necessarily bad that you have to spend some money, just go into it expecting to.

Yes, it's glass. Are you ready for 1500-200 bucks of resto work plus the trailer? Sitting outside without a floor...

The only thing worse than an old neglected fiberglass boat is and old neglected fiberglass boat with an old neglected I/O. Money pit.

Re: Boat Purchase Decision Help - 1993 Glastron 17.5' Merc. 3.0l - 4 cylinder I/O

:) Thanks for the quick responses and for saving me the trouble.

Latest update is that I've played some phone tag with the Lund boat owner. Left him voicemails expressing interest and sounding serious about making something happen with it in the near future (without sounding too excited ;) ).

Also, the Krusty Krab owner reached back out to me and said that he'd let me know by Sunday if he was willing to deliver the Krab for $900.

I'd say, with two boats outstanding, I've got a 50/50 chance of owning a boat come the end of next week (based on having not seen the Lund in person yet and it almost being too good to be true and then the fact that the Krab owner is a super unmotivated seller in terms of actually taking money for the boat and getting it out of his driveway (I thought he'd jump at the chance to move it the day I showed up and figured that instead of bargaining him down, the offer of delivering it to me for his asking price would seem reasonable and he'd have it gone). Maybe I'm expecting too much from people? I'm typically the type of person that fills up the tank before handing off a car I'm selling.

We'll see - excited at the possibility of having something I can put around in for a month on the lake and then put up on the trailer and work on over the winter (visions of a home made tarp garage with kerosene heater already dancing in my head :) ). Typically, how far into one of these projects does the thought of "wtf did I get myself into" hit?

Thanks,

Jon

Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!! Haven't heard back from the Lund owner - just went to look at the listing again and it's GONE: http://longisland.craigslist.org/boa/2597894497.html Seems that someone may have gotten to it before me. Left him another message - maybe the other guy will fall through for some reason. Painful to watch that one slip away. But, on a positive note, there are lots more popping up right now in the same price range, so we'll see what happens.
