Re: Boat Ramp Submerged Debris- What are my rights?

For me, there are three sensations similar enough to drive behavior beyond all reason and cost: Putting the throttle down; hitting a golf ball straight down the fairway 250+ yds and the third can't be said on a family board!

Boating can be frustrating as all heck - but when you put the throttle down, get up on plane and feel the boat take-off under you, it makes it all worth while. Just like golf, you can slice all day and then hit a great drive and feel like a milliion bucks!

Heck, it wouldn't be any fun if it didn't have a large degree of difficulty and challenge associated with it.

We all have our stories - I have some so frustrating and embarresing I wouldn't even share them becuase of the pain. But in the end, one good day out on the water MissBeeHavin' makes up for a lot of frustration.

Well, I agree with most all said here.....
Especialy neumanns.....
Because of people like mwatermasy001, My step-ladder Weighs Twice as much as it Should.... And Cost 3 times more than it Should....
Warning Labels,+ Lawsuits....

This is starting to sound like the guy in Illinois that Ran Over his Wife with his Boat,+ Wants Mercury Marine to pay for his Retirement..!!!...

I spoke with the insurance about this...

and they said something along the lines of...

You take a certain amount of risk/chance every time you enter the water..

So if you can get the boat ramp owner to pay for it SCORE! if not.. report it to your insurance..
dave

You nailed it bondo... enough claims on insurance and law suits already! I sympathize with mw001 though, if someone was to drop something in at our local ramp I'm sure a few people would hit it because it wasn't there before...
I happened to look at the signage at our ramp and it does say use at your own risk, not responsible for damage or theft... yada yada yada

That's a bummer but part of boating (I guess)

The launch may be municipal, but depending where you are, the water is owned by the state or federal government. And they are exempt from liability for run-agrounds and navigational errors.

If you can't laugh at yourself, someone here surely will. Relax, get it fixed, go burn up $50 worth of gas, and you will forget about it.

Re: Boat Ramp Submerged Debris- What are my rights?

for all of those interested....

The purpose of my original response was to get an idea of what I should expect to come out of this unforseeable, unfortunate event. As one said, only having the boat for 4 days and this happening was a bit frustrating, so I wanted to see what the appropriate route would be to rectify the situation. You can imagine my frustration when this happened, two days later that frustration is now beginning to subside

As a result, I took the boat back to the dealer, and they are currently replacing the prop for $150, plus I'll have a "spare" for future run-ins. As is pretty evident, I'm relatively new to this boating world (not a rookie, but still new)...I'm sure this is not the last prop I will ding, but I also hope the next one is more my fault...as I said, before understanding that you take some risk everytime you go out, the last think I would expect to hit is an anchor on the ramp, maybe that just me....

You live and learn, which is what I've done here...I'll foot this bill and move on, in agreement that once I'm back on the water I'll forget about this and laugh about it down the road.

With that said, I thank those who replied for the useful feedback...and lastly, in response to Snydersc, I did take the anchor with me....it's mine now, I think I've earned it.

Good man, stick around you will like it here. I didn't mean to get under your skin on your first post, for that I apoligize. Four days, was this your first launch with the new rig? I can empathize with your pain, hopefully some day it will be worth a laufgh. And yes you earned that anchor.

For sticking around through the hazing makes me believe you will come to love this site and may eventually be able to tolerate me. ;)
Welcome Abored!!

Re: Boat Ramp Submerged Debris- What are my rights?

Sunday was probably the 6th time launching the boat...I got in last Wednesday and had been in and out a few times before this happened...the frustrating part was I felt Sunday was the first time I actually did everything right....as you said before, *%it happens, so I guess it was just not my day!!

Re: Boat Ramp Submerged Debris- What are my rights?

west deptford??? where is that ramp? the only one I know of is right off the westville circle ... and that is the hargrove ramp ... yanno, the giant DEMOLITION company that decided to make a marina ... I would love to go splash the boat in over there, I need a place to get the boat together, check for leaks and see how this new 40 is going to work out ... the neat thing about a river is you head upstream, if something conks out you just paddle with the current (you learn these things with old stuff, lol)
I remember YEARS back, going into the Big Timber Creek (hmmm, I wonder if thats the ramp we are talking about here, damned if I can remember where it was) but Chugboat Annie stopped moving (old johnny was revving away, but we werent moving, of course today I would have a spare prop on board, but I was young then!) while out in the Delaware River ... lots of bananas floating in the water near the Chiquita - DelMonte docks ... and my buddy Bob said, should I wave at this frieghter?
Trying not to laugh, I said ya can, but they are only going to wave back, bunch a panamanians ... Bob waved both hands, but what is a 400 foot ship going to do? they did wave back tho, lol
Philly boats just kept running right past us, as the sun was setting, covering their vision of us with one hand while gunning the throttle with the other, f#@king philly sh!theads, but a guy and his kid came by with a 460 powered ski boat with a jet drive and drug us back into the docks, holy rumbling big blocks batman!
Subsequent tris revealed shopping carts, rolls of old fencing, floating bags of trash, yuck ...

but anyway, that municipal dock is on which river?
what do they charge?

and neumann, you are an a$$hole, lol,

If the anchor is able but unwilling to pay you could threaten to maroon the anchor on dry land, this may get results as anchors love water.

ever laugh so hard you have tears coming out? (of course, the tears may or may not have had something to do with the fact that a rather large mouthful of very hot coffee proceeded, or rather, preceeded the galloping guffaw, choosing to head out of my nose rather than get trampled somewhere in mid esophagus. A moping, pouting recalcitrant anchor keeps popping up in my minds eye.

ah well, back to the grind

Re: Boat Ramp Submerged Debris- What are my rights?

I belive there is a ramp in the new Riverwind's complex....that is not where I was, the one I was at is off of Red Bank Avenue, which is actually almost in National Park....but it may be the same...it's free to use the ramp (if you live close or can have someone drop you off), but it's $10 to park with a trailer.

As for all of the crap in the water...I agree, which I why I'll be on the lookout for "cleaner" waters to do my boating...

MW001, You should try boating the upper Delaware. At least you got an anchor I lost a skeeg and prop to a rock around Bulls Island S.P.

However, If you are into laughs it is a good place to watch jet skiers. I witnessed a guy pulling his skis out of the water with his brand new mustang 5.0. To make a long story short he pushed in the clutch but forgot about the gas! You guessed it! glub glub!! ;) Rolled right into the river.

Have fun!
