Re: Boat Speeds

Global Positioning System, but in my case your acronym would be accurate as well or so it would seem sometimes....

Re: Boat Speeds

80ish Sylvan 18' tinny with 90 Evinrude and 15 pitch SS prop I get 42 mph on GPS at 5100RPM with my wife, 3 young kids and 12 gallons of gas. I get 44 mph by myself, so I guess that must mean I'm the major weight issue.

Re: Boat Speeds

Gee is it too hard to say "48 MPH according to GPS"? We have to abbreviate as "48 GPS"?

Just a poke at those who use incorrect or unclear english.

I did refrain from correcting another poster by saying "My husband an I".

16 foot speedboat 135HP Merc V6 with 21" pitch prop, 62 MPG according to GPS at 6200RPM.

Re: Boat Speeds

My 18 foot Chaparral slightly underpowered with a carb 4.3liter is 2900lbs dry weight plus 33 gallons of gas, 4 people, coolers, gear, etc top speed anytime is 46mph on gps at 4800 rpms. Just me, gear and 10 gallons of gas best ever speed was 51.2mph at 4900+ rpms with my original Black Max 21p, alum prop marginally dinged up. My aluminum 21pitch Hustler takes about 3mph off top end. She is no speedster but will take waves like an over 20 footer.

Talking about correcting people and look at what you did....

WOW that is some good economy.

My 2004 180 Freedom with a 150HP Evinrude (direct injection) consistently does 44.7 MPH on GPS with pretty much any load (wife, kids, +2 adults, and 30 gallons of gas). When alone and light on gas it will hit 47 pretty easily. Oddly, it starts to chinewalk right as I want to give it a little more trim to get that last 1-2 mph.

My 1981 180 Marquise with a 165HP Chevy Inline Six, Mercruiser pre-alpha, will run 43-44 MPH on GPS consistently.
