Re: Boat Won't Start HELPPP!!!

Somebody has too much time on their hands!

I didn't believe that this combo existed. They did use later model gimbals with Ford engines! I apologize & stand corrected.

Originally I fiqured it was 2 pics & somebody playing games.

Do these pictures help guys???

yes, it is a mercruiser - don't know why it says 120 on the gimbal housing though, hopefully you are still running the 888 drive

have you looked into the shift cable causing the shift interrupt switch to engage incorrectly??

tune-up??

Firstly re-read each of dubs283's posts.

Secondly if you are not completely familiar with the starting procedure, auto choke & controller mechanism for free revving the engine in neutral then ask for directions, there may even be a sticky here somewhere for it.

Re: Boat Won't Start HELPPP!!!

Dub, I am in the process of giving this boat a tune up right now. Is there a way to know for sure that im running the 888 drive instead of the 120? Would it be bad if it was the 120? This is all very new to me and any help is appreciated

Re: Boat Won't Start HELPPP!!!

the only way to know for sure is to pull the top cap and count gear teeth on the drive and driven gear, then look in the manual to find the ratio you have

the 120 drive is designed for a 4 cylinder and would not aloow for peak performance, you may even end up destroying the drive

The only numbers i can find on my motor are D30E-9425-AA.The AA part is shady and hard to see so im not a 100% sure those are the numbers. After doing a little research I think what I have is a 1973 ford 302 v8???? HELLPP. Still need to figure out spark plug gap??

Re: Boat Won't Start HELPPP!!!

well unfortunetly before i found this thread i bought this boat! What a head ache it is, its a ford 302 and the outdrive sticker says its a 120. can someone help me figure out whats going on with this outdrive? If it is a 120 and geared for a four cyl that would explain why when i go to full throttle it tries to flip the boat over. would it be possible to replace the gears in the outdrive with ones from a 888? I got the boat for a steal of a deal but now its starting to become a sore in my back side. when i had it out on the lake top speed of the boat was about 25 mph and it sould be a lot more than that. any help or info would be awesome.
