Re: Boating: A WOMAN'S POINT OF VIEW

This is the first thread I've clicked on in "dockside chat" as I have been spending the majority of my time over in Johnson / Evinrude Trouble's and Repair trying to share what knowledge I have.

I have seen a lot of women on boats, and I've had a lot of women on my boat and to be honest most (and I emphasize, MOST) don't take an interest in the technical aspects of it so when we need help with something we'll ask the other men on the boat, or generally get annoyed when we try to ask a disinterested female. That's just the way it is, most of the time. My girlfriend on the other hand wants to know what's going on and gets really mad when you underestimate her abilities. I remember once offering to explain to her what a connecting rod was and she punched me in the arm proclaiming she knew exactly what a connecting rod was and that I was a jerk for assuming she didn't.

I guess what my ramble is getting at is that there are some females that do take an interest in other aspects of boating aside from the usual laying in the sun and doing nothing, but it's not most women, so I can understand why men don't put a lot of faith in them that way.

From the rule in the sticky note up top in this section:

LANGUAGE - Use of foul language is discouraged on this board. Language or other material that goes beyond the bounds of good taste may be edited or deleted at the sole discretion of the management.Pictures, or links to, pictures of adult nature will not be permitted. If you wouldn't show it to your children, it doesn't belong on Dockside.JOKES: "Off color" jokes or those of a perverse nature will not be permitted. Again, if you wouldn't tell it to your children, it does not belong on Dockside Chat.

I don't know about anyone else, but discussions including references to "" just don't seem to fit the general nature of this forum. We've got youngsters logging on here.

It's certainly not my call, but I sure didn't expect to find that here.

Re: Boating: A WOMAN'S POINT OF VIEW

I'll chime in a little here.
We got our first boat as a result of LF nagging me. She had grown up around boats and fishing. We started camping and bank fishing and eventually she wanted a boat. I can't swim and was perfectly happy on terra firma but my ears were starting to bleed from the constant noise as she watched boats go by. We're on our third boat and now live on the water where we can drop the boat in and be gone at a moments notice.
I've never been happier. I learned how to boat from the school of hard knocks, LF and my friends.
She wasn't comfortable with docking at first so I stayed on the dock and watched, ever ready to protect the fiberglass while she backed out, turned around and then re-docked for over an hour. Now she is probably better at it than I am. She handles the boat on the open gulf like a pro and can find fishing spots in the bay using the GPS. I've had a few "cardiac incidents" so it's re-assuring knowing that if something happens while we're on the water my mate can get herself to the dock (maybe even in time to get me help).
It's also a pride thing when I see others watching her pull into a dock. Most of our friends wives can hardly drive their cars let alone a boat.

Now, the power tool thing still makes me very nervous.

wow reading all this. TNT ya held up to that name..i started a forum last week.kinda done it. just to fun with my wife..we talked TNT..glad you got this one started. some very intersting views i have read here..funny how when ya start a conversation.so called a thread. people come out of the walls and turn what is suppose to be a discusson into. a battle of the sex. es...i agree with the admin.. its a dicussion board. joke make simple fun.same as you would aroung home. my son would not read most of this.its not all bad..but i tried earlier in this thread to make humour. my wife as a fish finder those kind of things,,that was to bring the fun in. the fun for this thread is going down a dirt road. love ya all but my wife will no longer post her cause what was said earlier about gay and lesbian stuff. totaly rude. and wrong.myself ill stay out of this thread.
