Post your favorite "boating" movies for those of us that have to endure long cold winters. Obviously there probably aren't any specifically about boating, but I'm sure there are some you enjoy with some boating elements and scenery.

"Gator Mccluskey" was another one. Lots of boats in that one.

Live and Let Die - the chase scene where they're jumping the old glastrons over the road embankments.

Dang it, I wanted to post Live and Let Die. Those jumping Glastron's were cool. That was also back in the day when 007 movies were good.

Re: Boating Movies

call me sick and twisted...but i thought "The Perfect Storm" was a great boating movie! sure...the ending wasn't happy, but the power of the sea was captured pretty well. on the same token, i like watching those alaskan crab reality shows on discovery channel (Deadliest catch?).

While not a boating movie necessarily (canoes) Deliverance comes to mind.

I enjoyed The Perfect Storm. I have Dead Calm in my BlockBuster queue right now. Not sure if I have ever seen that one...

The Bond and Gator boat scenes are great.

I'm looking for movies filmed almost entirely on or near water or on a boat. Jaws comes to mind of course. Deliverance did not. :) There must be others.

The Great Outdoors...lol...awesome. "I think he wants to go faster"

Caddyshack, when Dangerfield is ripping that yacht all through the port.

Most Bond movies.

And the geek side of me says Weekend at Bernie's, when they are dragging his body behind them. Ding. Ding. Ding.

PT109 is still a classic, not a boat vacation movie, but it was still awsome to see those old elco's and higgins craft.

Re: Boating Movies

"On Golden Pond". Good movie and some great boating scenes. The one with the kid when he is allowed to take the old Chris Craft out alone for the first time is awesome!

"Striking Distance" with Bruce Willis has some good on-water scenes, too.

As much as I like the boating action in the third Indiana Jones movie, "Last Crusade", I hated that they dubbed in the wrong sounds for the motors. And the cobbled together "antique" outboard they used in one of the get-aways was obviously a modern motor with a bunch of add-ons to make it look 1930s...

Which brings me to a personal pet peeve - dubbing in "motor" sounds in general. Nothing worse than a scene taking place in a boat with a big Merc V6 (one of the coolest sounding machines EVER!) and hearing a small-block Chevy engine. I've seen this in a lot of movies and TV shows ("Patriot Games" climax scene comes to mind). Producers must not appreciate the sound of a well tuned 2-stroke...
